There are loads of places to enjoy great days out in North Yorkshire. So many beautiful and scenic spots perfect for a day date. It can be a bit daunting spending the day with someone new, but on a day date, you can plan activities which is a great way to avoid the dreaded awkward silences!
Once you’ve bagged your ideal partner on one of the many free dating sites, then it’s time to set up a date. Most of my dates have been the normal ‘let’s go for a drink’. I actually think it’s much more fun to do something else. Especially if you are a bit shy like I am!
So let’s check out some of my favourite places in North Yorkshire.
4 days out in North Yorkshire perfect for a date
Helmsley is a small market town in North Yorkshire and is perfect for a date. Especially on a sunny day! We’ve been here on many days out and it’s just a pleasant place that isn’t too busy.
If you are lucky, you can avoid paying for parking by getting a spot on Ryegate.
Every time I go to Helmsley I feel like I’ve been transported back in time! They have things like:
- A traditional sweet shop
- A deli that sells amazing cheese, pastries and pies
- A fish and chip shop
- Quaint tearooms
- A beautiful gift shop
Our favourite places to go are Helmsley Brewing Company for a pint of their Helmsley Honey. On warm days you can sit outside around the back.
Helmsley Spice is where we tend to go to eat in Helmsley. The curry house is quite popular on weekends so don’t forget to book in advance! They have the most amazing lamb shank. But if I’m honest, I’m there for the poppadums and the dip selection you get at the start! I usually ask to keep hold of the dips because I want to dunk my naan in it, too.
There is also Castle you can visit. You have to pay to go inside but you can view it from the parameter if you don’t want to go inside.
Christmas in Helmsley is also lovely, with cute little trees and decorations all over, have a wander around before warming up in the pub.
Don’t forget to check if anything is going on before you go, we went on a weekend and they had a gin festival!
Castle Howard is worth a visit just for the butchers, in my opinion. When we lived closer, we used to go all the time for burgers, sausages and other meats.
The historic house has been in the Howard family for over 300 years. There’s plenty to see here. There’s plenty of rooms you can look at in the house itself and a chapel.
The gardens are really big too if you like outdoor activities. It’s perfect for a stroll around and you can take a ride on the land train if you get tired! There’s pleasure boats, ice creams, trails, woods to explore and even a garden centre.
Drive over the North York Moors to find yourself in Whitby. Whitby is a lovely place to spend the day. It’s popular so can get busy!
You will absolutely want to visit Whitby Abbey. Have a walk up the steps at the end of Church street to get to the beautiful Abbey. It can be accessed through the museum where you can learn about the history of the Abbey. There’s even a rare signed copy of Bram Stoker’s novel ‘Dracula’.
While you’re up at the Abbey, I’d recommend a visit to Whitby Brewery.
You’ll be spoilt for choice for things to do, there are the amusements which are always fun – one has a mini-golf course! There’s the Dracula Experience which is a bit of fun and contains cheesy animated scenes. You can walk on the beaches, out to the pier and don’t forget to take a photo in front of the famous tail bones.
There are lots of places to eat. Fish and chip shops are everywhere. I’d recommend eating at The Magpie restaurant, The Star in the Harbour or Cosa Nostra.
Most places in Whitby are dog friendly, too!
