So I wrote a post about what I’m getting up to in my quest to grow my fruit and vegetables last month here, and now it’s time for February’s edition.

What Seeds I'm Sowing In February

Update on last month’s seeds

I have things growing! It’s so satisfying to see things starting to grow! My little seedlings have started germinating.

My onions, mixed leaves, peppers and aubergines are all doing great! My cauliflower look a little leggy and my spinach do not look great to be honest, so I might need to scrap those and resow.

I planted some garlic cloves, and they are starting to come through, as well as some carrots, but I think they’ve failed to germinate! Ugh – try again!

I also did some sweet peas, which are on the kitchen windowsill. I think I was a bit late pinching them out, so they are a bit long!

February’s Seeds

In February, I put my potatoes out to chit. This basically means letting them root a bit and get ahead before planting them. You don’t have to do this, but it’s a good idea to. Once the roots are about one inch, you can plant them in the ground.

I also got my bare-root strawberries. I don’t know why I decided to get 20 plants. I’m going to be rich in strawberries, I guess. It’s going to be great if I get lots of fruit from them!

I sowed some cucumbers, tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. The cucumbers have already come up, but I’ve since realised that they are gherkin cucumbers. I’ve gone and got some normal ones to sow as well. We eat a lot of cucumbers so it would be good to have some!
