ad. I spend a lot of time at the piano (but not as much as I would like!) so it was about time I put a bit of time, effort and money into making it look a bit cosier.

The thing about pianos is that you can put stuff on top of them. So I typically end up with countless books on top of my piano and it can look a bit messy!

I loved how my piano was styled in the old house – I had bright prints, candles and some lovely cosy bits. But I didn’t want it to look the same in this house.

The piano is in my office, and I want it all to tie in together. Although the walls are painted in a light blue I would never pick, and the carpets are a dark green that makes me want to vomit, I still wanted to make the most of the space until we get around to updating it.

And we WILL get around to updating it. It’s just that this room isn’t a priority. We’ve also had some very expensive months recently due to the issues we’ve had with our roof, boiler, and one of the toilets, and I’ve just paid for a new woodburner. Oh, and the cars had a breakdown, and so did I.

I have a bit of decision fatigue and can’t decide what I want this room to look like, though I’m leaning towards a light sage green but I’ve also been toying with the idea of a light dusky pink.

Anyway, enough about that. Let’s talk about the piano.

Past Piano Stylings

When I first returned to the piano in 2019 and bought my digital Yamaha Clavinova, we had just moved into our new build house. I bought a few items for it to spruce it up. It’s mad how blank the walls were, though!

When I bought my upright at the end of 2021, I didn’t consider styling it for a while, apart from at Christmas. Of course. Ya girl loves Christmas!

But last summer, I spent an hour or so decorating it and loved how it turned out. Though I wish I had framed the prints! The prints are now in various parts of this house, as are the accessories. Although I loved how it looked, I wanted something different.

Styling The Piano In The New House

I’ve been in many a crisis over how I want to decorate my house. It’s so difficult because I suddenly get the urge to buy all the things just so I can make things look better. But then I end up buying into the current trends, rather than the timeless things I like.

I’m going for a bit of an old-fashioned, vintage, country home vibe with busy patterns and splashes of colour.

I picked up a set of six pressed flower prints in wooden frames. Perfect for the look I’m going for. I decided to take the bigger print on the left from the hallway as I’ll be getting new ones in the hall soon. I also took a vase and flowers from my dressing table. I kept the metronome, of course, and the hourglass that I’ve had for the past five years.

I love how it turned out, though I do wish for a bit more colour! However, I do think it looks good with the rest of the office and the curtains.

    1. Thanks! I was actually planning on putting it in the entrance hall but we ended up keeping the old reed organ from the previous owners.

  1. I love the vintage vibe. When I think of a piano in a home, I always think of it looking vintage with family photos on the top.

    1. That’s so true! Actually there are some old black and photos in the house, maybe I should frame them and stick them on top of the piano!

  2. I really like the pressed flowers! We’ve got a similar style set up in A’s room, but I love this more rustic set up.
