ad. Collagen supplements have been everywhere for a few years now, and for good reason — collagen is the most abundant protein in the body and plays a role in skin elasticity, joint health, hair and nails. It naturally declines as we age, which is why the supplement market has exploded.

I’ve tried a few different collagen powders over the years. The sticking point is always the same: taste and habit. I’ve had collagen products that I’ve bought and then just quietly stopped using because they were either flavourless and pointless or something I had to force down. So when I tried Elavate Collagen, I was paying attention to whether I’d actually keep it up.

The chocolate flavour mixed with cold milk is genuinely good — it’s like a chocolate milkshake, and I’ve been having it instead of reaching for something sweet. The tin lives on my coffee machine so I don’t forget. Here’s what you need to know about the product itself.

What is Elavate Collagen?

Elavate Collagen is a dietary supplement made to support skin, hair, and joint health. It contains two types of collagen: marine and bovine, along with key ingredients such as vitamin C and hyaluronic acid. There are 7050mg of collagen with each dose, it also contains Liposomal Vitamin C to activate the Collagen.

It comes in three flavours – chocolate, vanilla or unflavored.

What’s Actually in Elavate Collagen?

Each serving contains 8,050mg of collagen in total — 7,900mg of bovine collagen from grass-fed European cows, and 150mg of marine collagen from wild-caught Nordic fish. That’s a decent dose. Research generally suggests you need at least 2,500mg a day to see results, so Elavate isn’t skimping there.

Alongside the collagen, you get 300mg of liposomal vitamin C (which helps your body actually use the collagen it’s getting), 60mg of hyaluronic acid, 5mg of biotin, and a probiotic blend.

Worth knowing: it’s not suitable for vegetarians or vegans because of the bovine and marine collagen. It is gluten free, soy free, and dairy free though. And it’s made in York — which I find oddly pleasing given that I live not far away and like to support local where I can.

Types of collagen used (Marine & Bovine)

Elavate Collagen uses two main types of collagen: marine and bovine. Marine collagen is derived from the skin of wild-caught fish and is generally considered easier for the body to absorb. Elavate uses a relatively small amount (150mg) compared to the bovine content (7,900mg), so the bovine collagen is doing the heavier lifting in this formula. Bovine collagen is sourced from cows and contributes to the majority of clinical trials on various types of collagen.

Both marine and bovine collagens offer a high protein content in each serving, helping to support healthier hair, reduced joint discomfort, and smoother skin after the first 3–4 weeks.

What Elavate Collagen Is Claimed To Do

The main claims from Elavate centre on four areas: skin hydration and reduced fine lines, joint comfort and reduced stiffness, stronger hair and nails, and gut health (via the probiotic blend). These are consistent with the broader collagen supplement research, which generally supports benefits in these areas after sustained use — the keyword being sustained. Most studies point to daily use for at least 8-12 weeks before visible skin changes appear.

The liposomal vitamin C is worth mentioning specifically: vitamin C is needed for the body to synthesise collagen, so including it alongside the collagen peptides rather than leaving you to get it elsewhere is a sensible formulation choice.

How to Use Elavate Collagen

To use Elavate Collagen, mix two teaspoons per day into a beverage of your choice. I prefer to use the chocolate flavour and add it to coffee, warm milk or cold milk. It’s then basically like drinking a mocha, hot chocolate or chocolate milkshake! I prefer to take mine early in the day, around the same time each day. I have the tin on my coffee machine to help me remember.

How Much Does Elavate Collagen Cost?

Right, let’s talk money, because it’s the thing everyone wants to know and I’d rather just say it plainly.

Elavate isn’t cheap. A single bag on a one-off purchase is £49, which works out at about £1.63 a day. Switch to the flexible subscription and it drops to £39 a bag, so around £1.30 a day. If you commit to more bags at once, you can get it down further: three bags comes to roughly 88p a day, six bags to about 75p, and nine bags (ambitious) takes it down to about 65p a day.

My advice: start on the flexible subscription rather than going all-in on multiple bags before you know if it works for you. That’s a lot of collagen powder to be stuck with if you decide it’s not for you.

My Results So Far

The chocolate flavour is the one to go for. Mixed into cold milk with a frother it genuinely tastes good — I’ve been having it as an afternoon drink when I’d otherwise reach for something sweet, which means I’m more likely to actually keep it up. I haven’t been using it consistently enough over a long enough period to report visible skin or joint results, so I’m not going to pretend otherwise. What I can say is that the taste and the habit of it are the easy bit — which is further than I’ve got with most collagen powders.

If you want to know what to realistically expect from collagen supplements, the next section covers that.

How Long Does It Actually Take to Work?

The honest answer: longer than a week. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling something.

Roughly what to expect:

In the first week or two, most people notice slightly better joint comfort, maybe a bit less stiffness first thing in the morning. Skin might start to feel a bit more hydrated. At this point I’d say: don’t write it off if nothing dramatic is happening yet.

Around weeks four to six, more visible changes tend to start. Nails are often the first thing people notice — mine definitely did something noticeable around this point.

The 8-12 week mark is really when the skin stuff gets going. That’s when most long-term collagen users say they start to see the glow and plumpness people talk about.

After that, honestly, the benefits seem to compound the longer you use it consistently — which is either encouraging or a very clever subscription model. Probably both.

Elavate Collagen: Your Questions Answered

Is Elavate Collagen worth it?

If you’re going to use it every single day and commit to at least three months, then in my experience, yes. The formula is solid — a good collagen dose, liposomal vitamin C, and a taste that actually makes it easy to stick to. If you’ll commit to it daily for 8-12 weeks, there’s good reason to think you’ll see results. If you’re the type to buy supplements and then forget about them, no collagen product is going to work for you regardless of the formula.

Is Elavate available at Holland & Barrett or Boots?

No — as of 2026, Elavate is only available through their own website. You can’t pick it up on the high street, which is worth knowing if you’d rather not subscribe online.

Is Elavate Collagen gluten free?

Yes. It’s also soy free and dairy free. It’s not suitable for vegetarians or vegans (it contains both bovine and marine collagen), so do check that if it’s relevant for you.

Is Elavate made in the UK?

Yes, it’s manufactured in York in a GMP and BRCGS certified facility — which basically means the production standards are properly regulated. As a Yorkshire girl I’m a bit smug about this.

What does Elavate Collagen taste like?

Three flavours: chocolate, vanilla, and unflavoured. The chocolate one is by far the most popular, and I can see why — mixed with hot milk it genuinely tastes like a hot chocolate. Vanilla gets more mixed reviews; some people find it a bit sweet. Unflavoured works fine in coffee or smoothies if you don’t want it to taste of anything.

Does Elavate Collagen have any side effects?

Most people don’t experience any. It does contain fish and beef, so if you have allergies to either of those, it’s not for you. The biotin content is quite high — worth mentioning to your GP if you’ve got blood tests coming up, as it can affect certain results.

How long does Elavate Collagen take to work?

Realistically, 8-12 weeks for proper skin changes. Nail improvements tend to come earlier, often around the 4-6 week mark. Anyone promising you results in a week is exaggerating.

How much does Elavate Collagen cost per day?

On the flexible subscription it’s about £1.30 a day. Three bags brings it to around 88p a day. The lowest price requires committing to nine bags upfront, which takes it down to about 65p a day — but that’s a big commitment before you’ve tried it. I’d start on the flexible subscription.

  2. All I’m hearing at the moment is the benefits of collagen. We start losing it so early, it’s crazy! Adding it to your milkshake sounds so delicious.
