We had IKEA Hemnes bedside tables (I originally said Hermes – oops!), which we bought over 7 years ago. I really hate them. The instructions were clear in terms of the pictures provided, but they were just images with no written explanations for some steps. This threw me a bit at first because I’m very much a “read the instructions” kind of person. I like words as well as pictures!
Here’s the thing, though: After I built the first side table (which took me about 45 minutes), I found the second one SO much easier. I built the second table in no time – probably about 20 minutes.
Looking back, I think my initial struggle was just a case of lack of experience and not knowing what to expect. Once you understand how flat-pack furniture goes together, the pattern makes sense. So if you’re also someone who hasn’t assembled furniture in years, don’t panic! You’ve got this.

Now for the important part – what do I actually think of these bedside tables?
I absolutely love them! The product quality is excellent. They feel sturdy and well-made, not flimsy or cheap. The style is exactly what I was looking for – modern, clean lines, and they look sophisticated next to our king-size bed.

This was actually the first product I picked when browsing the Bed Kingdom website, and it’s the piece I was most excited about!
Using a Desk as a Dressing Table
I wanted to use this desk as a dressing table because I’d been making do with an old sideboard for ages. It wasn’t ideal and didn’t give me the proper space I needed for getting ready in the mornings.
Our bedroom is quite big, so a full-size desk rather than a smaller traditional dressing table actually works great for our room size. The Noomi Aponi desk is just the right size for what I wanted! Not too big that it overwhelms the space, but large enough to be functional.
I was really excited to get this together and style it up.
Assembly: Girl Power!
Here’s something that made me feel pretty accomplished: The assembly instructions said it needs two men to put it together. Well, it only took one woman (me!), which felt absolutely great!
Take that, gender stereotypes!
In all seriousness, though, the assembly wasn’t too difficult. There’s only one thing I could have used help with – putting the lid on and lining up all the attachments at once. Having an extra pair of hands to hold things in place while I secured them would have made that bit easier. But I managed it all by myself in about an hour and a half, which I was really pleased with.
The drawers were straightforward to assemble, and the desk top is nice and solid. Everything fit together well without any wonky bits or parts that didn’t align properly.
Styling My New Dressing Table
I had SO much fun styling this desk! I went shopping at Søstrene Grene and Homesense to pick up some decorative items. I also “shopped” the other rooms of our house and borrowed some items from them (you know how it is – rob Peter to pay Paul!).
The desk gives me plenty of space for:
- My makeup and skincare products
- A decorative mirror
- Plants (because we all need a bit more green in our lives!)
- Storage for jewellery and accessories in the drawers
- Display space for pretty things that make me happy

What I love most is that this desk has transformed my morning routine. Having a dedicated, organised space to get ready makes everything feel more intentional and calm. It’s the little things!

We desperately needed more storage, so I opted for the Noomi Nora chest of 3 drawers. This was probably the piece we needed most urgently.
Why We Needed Storage
My husband had been using plastic storage trays as makeshift drawers (I know, I know…). Getting these proper chest of drawers meant I could empty the other chest of drawers we had, which freed them up for me to use, while my husband could use the old IKEA ones. Everyone wins!
Assembly Challenges
The assembly process for these drawers threw me a bit, but not because of the actual construction. The instructions were provided via a QR code to save paper, which I appreciate from an environmental standpoint. However, I had to use my phone to read them throughout the assembly, which was a bit of a struggle.
Trying to hold my phone, read instructions, and assemble furniture at the same time was awkward. I ended up propping my phone against random things and constantly unlocking it as the screen timed out. If you’re planning to assemble these, I’d recommend either:
- Using a tablet for easier viewing
- Taking screenshots of the instructions beforehand
- Having someone else hold your phone for you!
Technical Issue I Encountered
There was one minor issue during assembly: Some of the screws for attaching the drawer runners were a bit too small and wouldn’t grip properly where indicated. They just kept spinning without catching.
Thankfully, I’m pretty handy when it comes to problem-solving, so I figured out that I could screw them into a slightly different part where they would hold securely. It’s a good job I am smart! (And modest, obviously.)
The drawers themselves went together fine once I sorted out that screw situation. They glide smoothly and feel solid.

Despite the minor assembly hiccups, I love how they turned out! They provide loads of storage space and look great in our bedroom.
One observation: They are quite low. I think maybe a 4-drawer version would be even better for maximising storage without taking up more floor space. But overall, I love them and I really enjoyed styling them.
I added a bit of extra height and visual interest with framed pictures and vases on top, which makes them look more finished and decorative rather than just purely functional.
