I did my first plant tour last year. I got the bug for plants last spring and could not stop buying them. The problem – we were due to move house over the next few months, so I really had to restrain myself.

The last thing I wanted was to have to move a load of plants without damaging them! I mostly behaved myself, with a few exceptions.

my plant collection

Plus, we were trying to get less stuff, not more. So I sat on my hands and tried my very best to be good and not go overboard.

Well, now we are in our new home, and I can finally start throwing plants at all my problems.

That’s what it feels like I’m doing, really. We need to decorate almost every room in our new home. This isn’t happening quickly. So for now, I’m throwing plants, rugs and wall art at everything. And you can’t stop me (this is probably directed at my husband).

I’ve decided I want to trail plants across the top of the kitchen cabinets, I want to have them all over the bathrooms, I want them EVERYWHERE. But waiting for these plants to get big enough to trail is going to take a while.

So while we wait, let’s do a plant tour.

Plants I still have from last year

I still have a few plants from my original collection. Sadly, not all made it. My biggest tragedy was my Monstera (Swiss Cheese Plant), which suffered a thrip infestation. I really really REALLY tried to save it by washing its leaves almost daily and using an insect killer and neem oil.

But I couldn’t get it to recover.

Dieffenbachia ‘Camilla’

Dieffenbachia ‘Camilla’

This was my first plant, so she holds a special place in my heart. She also caused me a huge dilemma when I realised she’s toxic to pets. Thankfully, the symptoms are only mild if the plant is ingested. And my cats pay zero mind to plants. They’ve never tried to eat any plants and aren’t interested in them whatsoever.

She does have some browning leaves and doesn’t seem as bushy as when I first got her. I could do with having a good look at her and seeing what her problem is. I’m not a massive fan of this type of plant, it’s only special because it was my first. Don’t tell her I said that. She’s just a problematic, toxic queen.

Fishbone Prayer Plant

Fishbone Prayer Plant

I loved this cutie from the moment we first met. It was so exciting seeing the leaves move up and down as it prayed! This also sent me into a spiral when the tips started going brown because I was using tap water.

Distilled or rainwater only! This baby is on a rainwater diet and in a pebble tray for humanity, which seems to keep it happy.

Spider Plant

Spider Plant

My spider plant had a hard time when we moved house. He was not happy with where I put him. He started going a bit pale. But I’ve since moved him to our bedroom, where he gets great indirect sunlight. He’s going green again and living life.

Venus Fly Trap

Venus Fly Trap

Honestly, I am surprised these have lasted this long – I split the plant into three last year. I had to do a lot of research into these! They seem complicated at first – no tap water, no fertiliser, must have lots of light, eats flies, goes into hibernation, no compost…

But honestly, it’s easy. I have no idea how I managed to get them through winter. I just put them in the conservatory and ignored them. I moved them into the pantry for a bit, and now they’re back in the conservatory where it’s warm.

They started flowering, as well, but I cut the stem off because it takes the energy away from producing more traps. Such a shame as the flowers are so pretty!

Money Plant

Money Plant

Honestly, my money plant has not been the same since I replanted her. Though I think she is happy because she is still a big girl and has given lots of babies out.

Birthday Prayer Plant

Birthday Prayer Plant

This is another prayer plant, and she is my absolute pride and joy. I don’t know what I am doing right, but she loves her life and is such a happy, sweet girl. She even gives off purple flowers. She is BEAUTIFUL.

Succulent

Succulent

We’ve had this for years. It’s massive now. We just chuck water on it every so often. I feel nothing towards it, and it feels nothing towards us.

Propagations

I’ve had some joy in propagating some of my plants. A great way to multiply your collection!

Monstera

Monstera

Before my cheese plant got thrips, I had propagated it! So I at least have SOMETHING left over from its tragic death. Cheese plant v2 has three leaves now!

Pothos

Pothos

I propagated these from my mother-in-law. I have three clippings altogether, and honestly, they are growing slowly!

Fish bone prayer plant

Fish bone prayer plant

I’ve only just done this, I think I just ripped a bit out, and it had roots, so I just put it into soil. Is that how it works? I was feeling propagatious. I don’t think that’s an actual word.

But what I mean is: I had the intense urge to propagate.

Propagation station

Propagation station

In my propagation station, I’ve got a magical specimine from my beloved prayer plant. It hurt deeply to cut this off, so please don’t die.

There are also two clippings from my pothos that’s upstairs in our bedroom. I think I’m just gonna keep propagating it every time it grows over its moss pole so I can eventually have about three thousand pothos. Do you think that’s enough?

Money plants

Money plants

My money plant gives me so many babies. Thank you, dear child. I appreciate you so much. The small ones do not look well, though, I did a terrible job pulling them from the mother plant.

Turtle vine

Turtle vine

Now, these were originally in my money plant when I got it. I propagated and made two beautiful turtle vines that have since passed. But I did snip some cuttings as the final one was dying, to hopefully make a new one. This is so skinny and delicate, though!

New Plants

Right. Are you ready for this?

prayer plant

Some kind of prayer plant

Not the technical name. My mother-in-law propagated this and passed it to me. Sometimes it looks so brown and crispy, but then it kind of recovers. Still don’t think it’s well, but it’s hanging in there.

spider plant

Spider plant!

This is another spider plant I bought just before we moved. It came in a cute Christmas plant pot from Aldi.

Pothos

Pothos

Got this for the bedroom. It’s big. It’s got a moss pole. Love it. The leaves are HUGE!

Hoya Krohniana Eskimo

Hoya Krohniana Eskimo

Say hiya to my hoya. I got this because they are climbers or trailers. And I want to trail her so bad. They are also slow growers, though, so it may take a while. The leaves are actually smaller than I was expecting, but I’m trying to think positively about the situation.

Epipremnum Marble Queen Pothos

Epipremnum Marble Queen Pothos

Hey queen. This pothos is STUNNING. I love the leaves so much. Again, I bought to trail this plant.

Epipremnum Happy Leaf Manjula Pothos

Epipremnum Happy Leaf Manjula Pothos

Another beaut. Is the the same type as the pothos in my bedroom? I don’t know.

Monstera Deliciosa Thai Constellation

Monstera Deliciosa Thai Constellation

This has been on my list for ages, but they are so expensive. I just got a plug plant, which was £20! It had better survive! I hope over the years it grows huge!

Areca Palm Dypsis Lutescens

Areca Palm Dypsis Lutescens

This is a large plant – I’ve been dying to get a large one! I’ve got one that is okay in low-light conditions, as I want it in the centre room of the house, which is quite dull. I love it! It’s somehow ended up next to my piano, though. So maybe I need another plant fr the centre room?

Anthurium Red Flower

Anthurium Red Flower

This was a free plant I got with the areca palm, it’s only a baby but hope to grow it strong.

Dracaena Marginata

Dracaena Marginata

Dragon tree! I love it. I know nothing about it! It was an impulse buy.

Satin Pothos

Satin Pothos

Apparently, I love pothos. The leaves, though! Another trailing baby. This is probably one of my favourite plants at the moment!

Mini Kalenchoe

Mini Kalenchoe

This is just a little cutie I picked up from Morrisons, I thought it would be nice to have something with flowers on to add a bit of colour!

Random cheap plants

Random cheap plants

These are 2 for £2 in Morrisons, so I decided to grab them. I’m not sure what they are, but they had interesting colours on them, soI thought it would be nice to add them to my collection.

Snake plant

Snake plant

I’ve always wanted a snake plant! They are hard to kill, but I’ll give it a run for its money.
