ad. I love a subscription service, and I love growing plants. Pot Gang has merged these two joys of mine together as a seedling subscription service that simplifies gardening.

I’ve been growing my own veg this year, and Pot Gang makes it straightforward. They sent me their April Box, so let’s find out more!

What is Pot Gang?

Pot Gang is a gardening subscription box service. It provides monthly boxes with seasonal seeds and clear instructions for an easy way to grow your own food. The monthly boxes from Pot Gang come directly to your door, filled with seasonal seeds such as broad beans, French beans, and spring onions. This service helps you to grow your own food at home by including easy-to-follow instructions in each box.

Sam Smith created Pot Gang during lockdown to help people grow food at home. A unique feature is access to WhatsApp support, allowing gang members to seek advice at any time. These grow boxes make a great gift or starting point again and again—each box brings new plant types like thyme sprouts to an entire herb garden setup alongside your strawberries and tomatoes.

What I love about Pot Gang

Beginner-friendly gardening

Pot Gang is great for beginners. If this is your first time, you’ll find everything straightforward. Each box includes seeds, soil, pots, and easy instructions. This means no stress about selecting the wrong seasonal seeds or figuring out water amounts for plants.

Seasonal grow boxes with clear instructions

These boxes contain seasonal seeds, from strawberry plants in summer to basil as it warms up. Each box comes with easy-to-follow instructions, removing guesswork from planting pak choi or watering cherry tomato plants. The instructions Pot Gang includes guidance on timing and care for different seeds throughout their growing seasons, using simple terms. This means you learn not just about planting but also the specific needs of each seed type over its life cycle—so it’s easy, even if it’s your first year trying out green fingers with no gardening experience.

Access to WhatsApp support

When you join Pot Gang, you can ask questions and get support via WhatsApp. This is especially helpful for beginners or when facing plant problems.

Fun and educational for families

Pot Gang changes how families view gardening. It makes growing your own fruit and vegetables enjoyable and is a great way to get children into growing their own food.

The April Box

I received the April box, which contained everything I needed to get started. It had heirloom tomato seeds, thyme and Jersey Royal potatoes. The box had all the pots I needed and even some coco coir compost, which expands to 15 litres of compost when watered.

The instructions were really easy, with each item coming with a little booklet which tells you exactly what you need to do. It tells you how to plant the seeds, how deep to plant them, when to pot them up if needed, and how long it takes to get a harvest. It’s packed full of information, so even a non-gardener can get started without any prior knowledge or equipment.

The first thing I planted was the tomatoes; it was really simple, just following the instructions. I’ve put a lot of time into learning how to grow my own veg this year, and I’ve watched lots of YouTube videos so I know what to grow and when – but the instructions really do make it so easy to just start without having to do the research. You can just learn as you go, and it can take the overwhelm out of transforming your outdoor space into a vegetable garden.
