Right, so it’s that time again.
The Christmas decor has been down for a while now, but it never quite feels like the right moment to go full spring until… it does. You know that feeling? January and February are a bit of a weird no-man ‘s-land, decorating-wise. The tinsel is gone, but it still feels too gloomy outside to start pulling out the pastel bunting. So I’ve been doing what I always do in that in-between stretch — a sort of winter hybrid situation. A few bits that were technically Christmas but could pass as “just wintery.” A candle here. A neutral wreath there. The odd bright thing was thrown in because I couldn’t help myself.
But this week, I finally got the spring decor out. And honestly? It made me so happy.

The Welsh Dresser
If you read my post on styling my Welsh dresser for spring last year, you’ll know I absolutely love using it as the focal point of the kitchen through the seasons. It’s such an easy win — swap a few things around on the shelves and the whole room feels different.

This year I’ve kept most of the same pieces as last year, which I’m actually quite pleased about. I’m a big believer in reusing seasonal decor rather than buying new stuff every year — your future self will thank you when you open the boxes and find everything you need already there. The only new additions this time are some tulips and a couple of paintings I did myself, which I’m dead chuffed with.

The dresser has the usual mix — different heights, a few grouped items, some colour. I keep coming back to the rule of grouping things in threes with varying heights, because it just works every time. One tall thing, one medium, one small. Job done.
The Jug Vase
Okay, the tulips deserve their own mention.

I’ve put them in a jug rather than a traditional vase, and it’s one of those little decisions that just pulls everything together. The jug’s got bright colours on it — really springy — and the tulips sit perfectly in it. There’s something about fresh flowers that no amount of faux decor can replicate. They just lift a space immediately.
If you’ve been thinking about getting tulips in for spring, do it. Seriously. Cheap, cheerful, and they make your kitchen look like you’ve got your life together even when you absolutely haven’t.

The Tablecloth
I also switched out the tablecloth, which sounds like a minor thing but genuinely changes the feel of the whole kitchen-diner. It’s one of those quick wins that takes about thirty seconds and makes a big difference. A fresh, spring-appropriate tablecloth and suddenly it doesn’t feel like the tail end of winter anymore.
If you want some inspiration on table styling, I wrote about creating a new table setting with La Redoute Intérieurs a while back — worth a read if you’re thinking about refreshing yours.
The Paintings
This is the bit I’m most excited about, if I’m being honest.

The new paintings on the dresser are ones I painted myself. I’ve been getting into watercolours lately — I did a watercolour galaxy tutorial on here a while back — and I’ve been trying my hand at some spring-themed pieces. Having something genuinely personal and handmade in the space makes it feel so much more like our home rather than just a collection of things from The Range (no offence to The Range, obviously — half my decor is from there).
It’s also free, which is always a bonus.

The Gap Between Seasons
Can we just acknowledge for a second how odd that post-Christmas, pre-spring period is? Nobody really talks about it. The festive stuff comes down, and suddenly your home just looks a bit bare and beige and sad. I always feel a bit lost with it.
My approach — and I’d recommend it — is to not stress about it being “wrong.” A bit of a hybrid is fine. Keep the cosy candles. Add a brighter cushion. Dig out something that’s technically Easter but you’re putting it out in February because you need the serotonin. There are no rules.
Spring will come. And when it does, getting your home ready for it is genuinely one of the nicest things you can do for yourself in March.
