On my birthday I went to Lightwater Valley with Christine and Lilly.

Can you see the pattern here? I LOVE THEME PARKS.

I have the bug and want to go to them all.

I’m usually such a wimp, but I’ve been so brave lately and I love that scary feeling roller coasters give you. I like it when you’re going fast up and down and you get the tickles in your belly. It’s cute.

So yeah, on my birthday we decided to go to Lightwater Valley in Ripon, North Yorkshire.

I’ve never been before so had no idea what to expect. I’ve not actually been to a theme park in the UK since I was really young.

We got there around 10:30 and started making our way around.

Lightwater Valley Rides

The first thing we got on was the Carousel. Which seemed to go on for ages so got boring quickly.

There were a lot of school kids there on school trips and we had the pleasure of sharing the carousel with the swarking type.

We then went on the Skyrider, which is actually scarier and faster than it looks! The top of it sways giving you a big head rush. Again, this went on for quite a while. Lilly hates rides so wasn’t impressed!

After that, we went on the Falls of Terror, which are 3 slides that you get in on the boat. You have to go on in twos though, so I went on with Lilly and then went again on a different one with Christine. The twirly one was a lot of fun as it was dark in there and you can’t really see what’s coming!

After the Falls of Terror, we went along to The Flying Cutlass which is a pirate ship. It was so funny as Lilly hated it and tried to climb as low down as she could in her seat. It tickled my stomach so much every time. I LOVE PIRATE SHIPS. Mostly we just laughed at Lilly.

There is also an upside down pirate ship. We avoided the one that goes upside down because that seems terrifying!

We went on Powder Kegs which was a strange ride. You spin around in karts while the karts spin around each other. It was a bit unexpected and you changed direction a lot!

We went on the Little Dipper and The Lady Bug. The Little Dipper is a really small roller coaster for kids and the Lady Bug is a small roller coaster that’s a bit faster. To be honest they were both quite uncomfortable. The rides don’t really support you and you get banged about a lot.

We then went on The Twister which is like Primevil Whirl in Disney’s Animal Kingdom (AKA where my dress ripped and I had a meltdown). It’s a coaster that spins as it goes around and it was just really rickety. I have bruises all over for being chucked about.

The Wild River Rapids were disappointing! After going on the amazing ones at Universal and Animal Kingdom I think I’ve been spoilt! It was short and there weren’t any drops. It was more like a float than a rapid! It’s a shame as I love water rides, but Lightwater Valley water rides aren’t that good!

Next, we went on Raptor Attack which was so much fun! We had no idea what it was. It’s an indoor roller coaster that is pitch black. There are a couple for scary drops on it. Kind of wished we had done this one again!

After that, we went on The Ultimate. Which is a massive roller coaster. It’s 1.5 miles long and seems to go on forever! We stood in the queue waiting for such a long time, but only two rides went before us. That was just because the ride itself took a long time to finish. You start on a big climb of 100ft. The drop isn’t as fast as you would think. There’s another 100ft climb and again, the drop wasn’t scary at all. Then you are flat but racing through the woods which is the fastest part of the ride. It’s twisty though and again, you get banged about a lot going around the bends.

After this we went on the Light Water wheel to check out the views, and then the swan pedal boats.

My thoughts on Lightwater Valley

It was a fun day out and I’m so glad there weren’t many queues as I think I would have been frustrated if I had to wait for some of the rides that weren’t so good.

The Ultimate, Raptor Attack and Flying Cutlass were all brilliant rides. The rest, not so much. I think Raptor Attack Lightwater Valley was our favourite rides.

The park as a whole seemed really old and worn down. There were many rides with chipped paint, damage and that looked old. It could do with a revamp and one or two bigger rides! I didn’t like how I didn’t feel secure on a lot of the rides. Most of the rides are bench style for two people and a bar that comes down. If you ride alone it hurts more as there’s nothing keeping you in place. I bruised my arms, knees and shine because of this!

Lightwater Valley is aimed more towards children than adults. It’s a good job we are wimps as if you are seeking some real thrills as an adult, this would not be for you.

Have you ever been to Lightwater Valley?

  1. You really have had the theme park birthday. Your friend who hates rides sounds like me, I generally hate anything that is even slightly scary. You look like you had fun Lucy x

  2. I haven’t been to a them park in so long! And I imagine it is much better now because I have the money for as many rides and games as I want, unlike when I was a kid. 😀

  3. The rides at older parks always make me feel nervous as well. Looks like you had a fun day though.

  4. I think I’d be like your friend, I’m not a massive fan of heights! I think I’d like Raptor Attack though! x

  8. Aw I love theme parks too! Roller coasters are a lot of fun but I do have my limits-like super fast declines that shoot straight down aka King Da Ka. Omg no.But the water slides look like a lot of fun too! Glad you had a great time 🙂

  9. I’m a little envious of people who enjoy theme parks, I’m too much of a wimp to go on most of the rides. I’d probably be okay in the carousel haha 🙂 but glad you had a nice time! Happy Belated Birthday, Corinne! xx
