We just took our toddler to another magical Christmas event at the Web Adventure Park in York. Located off Wigginton Road, this much-loved family attraction in York has created a fantastic Christmas Festival filled with holiday magic.
We have been to Web Adventure Park (formally known as Creepy Crawlies) many times with our son. It’s a play centre that has an indoor play area featuring a big soft play area, a role play area and a sensory area. There are outdoor children’s rides, outdoor play equipment, bounce pillows, sandpits and even some farm animals. It’s the perfect place for kids to hang out and over Christmas, you can join Santa in one of their Christmas events.
Toddle Into Christmas & The Christmas Experience
The Christmas Experience is an event where you can take your child to see Santa and enjoy the popular family attraction. But we went to the Toddle Into Christmas event, which is similar but it’s for toddlers only. This is fantastic as The Web can get so busy and the bigger children are a bit intimidating for the younger ones when it comes to running around a soft-play area. This event runs before the school holidays during the week, so you can take your toddler to meet Santa and his cheeky elves and play on the outdoor rides and indoor play area when it’s quieter.
I think it’s a great idea for younger children! The first time we went to The Web was a Sunday and it was so busy! Kids were just running around all over the place and it wasn’t good for our young son who is quite cautious anyway! I’ve always wanted to take him on the outdoor rides but they’re only open at peak times when we avoid going.
Meet Father Christmas At The Web
When you book your ticket, you book a time to visit Father Christmas in his twinkling grotto. You can attend the park all day, but just need to book the time for the Santa visit. When it’s your time, you make your way to Sata’s grotto and meet Santa’s elves. There’s a short wait here for your turn. There are tables with Christmas colouring activities to keep your child entertained. The elves spent a lot of time talking to my son. She then gave him a pair of magical glasses that turn Christmas lights into snowflakes. And if the kids have managed to secure a spot on his ‘nice list’, they could be in for a delightful surprise – a special gift from Santa’s sack, too!
We went through and met Santa in his grotto. It was so cosy and had fairy lights everywhere. Santa chatted with us and then gave Leo an Elf toy from his sack. We then left through a different door and there was a sleigh you could sit on and take photos. As well as a reindeer! Next, we went through a long tent that was full of Christmas trees and lights. After this, we went to another hut where Leo could pick a book. All the books were Christmas-themed, we picked ‘Santa Comes To Yorkshire’.
Fairground Rides for All Ages
The Christmas Festival at the Web Adventure Park is not solely about meeting Santa and his reindeer. The event also includes unlimited rides on all twelve fairground attractions. From the Double Carousel and the classic Helter-Skelter to the Pony Express, there’s a ride for every family member to enjoy. As dusk falls, these rides are bathed in the soft, twinkling lights, transforming the park into a winter wonderland.
My son loved the Ferris Wheel and the Carousel! There was a Caterpillar rollercoaster but sadly it wasn’t running! My son still had so much fun on the other rides. Then we went back into the huge indoor play area to play some more.
Indoor Adventure for the Little Ones
The indoor play area is a multi-tiered play zone that has separate areas for babies and older children, allowing them to let off steam in a safe, age-appropriate environment. Parents can sit back, relax, and enjoy a luxury hot chocolate or a glass of mulled wine, while the children explore the ball cannons, slides, and soft play structures.
My son loves the top part of the large soft play which is full of obstacle courses. Again, this is something we wouldn’t be able to go on without the risk of him getting knocked by older children. So the toddler session was great! He also adores the big slide at the top!
Christmas Trees and Lights
The park is full of Christmas trees, twinkling lights and festive characters, creating a magical atmosphere. There are so many photo opportunities waiting to happen. From the shimmering Christmas trees to the festive characters dotted around, the park is a visual treat that will leave you and your family enchanted.
Festive Shows and Elf Academy
For the Christmas Festival (not Toddle into Christmas), you will be entertained by ‘Dazzling Darren’ and his band of merry performers. With music, magic, prizes, and heaps of festive fun, these shows promise to keep everyone in the family engaged and entertained. What’s more, the park’s new Elf Academy offers children the chance to learn about Christmas traditions in a fun and interactive way.
Food and Drink Options
Exploring the park can build up quite an appetite! Thankfully, the park has a café that offers a selection of both hot and cold food. There are things like cakes, crisps, chocolate as well as pizza, burgers, chips and jacket potatoes.
Booking Your Visit
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, all visits to Father Christmas must be booked online in advance. During the booking process, families can select a thirty-minute slot for their visit to Father Christmas’s grotto. Remember to be punctual, or you might find your name on Santa’s naughty list!
Tickets and Pricing
Toddler into Christmas costs £9 per adult, £16 per child and £12 for children under 1.
Tickets for the Christmas Festival are more expensive, at £20 per adult, £27 for children and £12 for children under 1.
