Sustainability is becoming a big part of our everyday lives, as it should. There are many companies with inspiring stories, and Cycle of Good is one of them. This socially responsible initiative takes worn-out inner tubes and upcycles them into beautiful, useful products while providing a livelihood for artisans in Malawi, one of the world’s poorest countries. These innertubes would have previously ended up in a landfill, but instead, they are given a new lease of life as a new product.
Let’s find out more about Cycle of Good, its products, its mission, and what makes it a champion of sustainability and economic growth.

About Cycle of Good
Cycle of Good was born out of a desire to create a cycle of positivity. The idea was simple: to reuse waste materials from the UK and repurpose them into valuable products while providing employment opportunities in Malawi. They currently employ 33 Malawian tailors full-time and hope to increase this to 100.
The Power of Inner Tubes
Cycle of Good’s primary raw material is inner tubes. Thousands of inner tubes are discarded in the UK every year. Cycle of Good collects these, carefully sorts them, and then ships them to Malawi. It’s a brilliant example of how a waste product can be given a new lease of life while contributing to a global cause.
The Team In Malawi
In Malawi, a team of skilled artisans working in a non-profit social enterprise transforms these inner tubes into beautiful, functional products. From wallets and bags to key rings and belts, each item is handmade with care and skill. The result is a range of high-quality, durable products.

The Elephant Bike
One of the significant products of Cycle of Good is the Elephant Bike. This sturdy, reliable bike is designed for the rugged terrain of Africa. Each Elephant Bike is crafted from a decommissioned Royal Mail bike, refurbished and upgraded for life in Malawi. For every bike sold, another is donated to a Malawian, providing essential transport for healthcare workers, students, and small-scale entrepreneurs.
The Cycle Continues
The journey of Cycle of Good doesn’t end with the sale of a product. The revenue generated is reinvested back into the communities in Malawi. It funds education, childcare, and further job creation, thus ensuring a continuous cycle of good.

The Best Way Forward
The success of Cycle of Good is not just in the products it creates but also in the impact it has on individuals and communities. The artisans receive a fair wage, enabling them to support their families and contribute to their communities. The customers receive a product that is not only functional and stylish but also carries a story of transformation and hope.
Sustainable Shopping Habits
Reusable products are so important these days, especially when it comes to our shopping habits. It seems like years ago you could get an unlimited amount of carrier bags from the shop! Now you have to re-use or buy new ones.
When I was asked to try some products of Cycle of Good, I decided to get some bits that would help make my shopping trips both easier and greener.

The first thing I picked was this Innter Tube Coin Keyring. It’s perfect for putting your £1 for the trolly so you always have it to hand!

The next thing was this reusable shopping bag. It’s made from a recycled coffee sack and innertubes and is the perfect size for taking shopping.

I also picked some reusable gift bags. They are handcrafted in Malawi from local wax print cotton known as Chitenge. Although they are supposed to be gift bags, I thought these would be great for putting loose fruit and vegetables in at the supermarket!

The final item was this slimline wallet. I have a big, bulky purse which I often leave at home as it’s quite heavy and takes up a lot of space. I don’t use money anymore, anyway! So this wallet is perfect as I can put my most used cards in and pop the wallet in the baby changing bag. It uses up hardly any space and is easy to locate.

The Perfect Christmas Gift
So as you can see, these items are really handy, practical and eco-friendly. My husband loves cycling and before Leo, we would go for bike rides often. So these products would make such a good Christmas gift for him, or for anyone who enjoys cycling or who is keen to do their bit for the environment.

The Future of Cycle of Good
Cycle of Good is not just a business; it’s a movement. As it continues to grow and evolve, it remains committed to its core values of sustainability, fair trade, and economic empowerment. New product lines are being explored, and innovative ways to make use of waste materials are being developed. The future of Cycle of Good is bright, so watch this space!
