If you’re looking for a lovely spot in Malton that serves delicious food alongside a brilliant selection of local produce, Malton Relish is an absolute must. We first stumbled upon this wonderful deli cafe last Christmas Eve, and it quickly became one of our favourite places in the Market Place. It’s a bit nostalgic to me, as we went when we had just moved house. It was nice to have a sit-down and coffee after a busy week!

We visited again today for coffee, a sausage roll and a pork pie, and it was just as brilliant as I remembered. We also picked up some cheese from their well-stocked cheese counter. It’s the sort of place that makes you want to linger a bit longer, browsing the shelves and chatting with the friendly team.

Update: Relish closed on 21st February 2026. They will still be available for catering events, canapes and cakes.

Updated March 2026 – Malton Relish is still open Tuesday to Saturday, 9.30am–4.30pm. Check maltonrelish.co.uk for any changes to opening hours and to browse their nationwide delivery options.

What Makes Malton Relish Special

Malton Relish sits right in the heart of the Market Place, and it’s easy to see why it has such great reviews. The welcoming atmosphere hits you as soon as you walk through the door. The owner launched the deli back in December 2007 and won “Best New Deli” in 2008, which really set the benchmark for what they do.

What I love most about Malton Relish is its commitment to local produce and seasonal eating. They work with local suppliers to bring wonderful Yorkshire food to both locals and visitors. The intricate details in their food packaging show how much care goes into everything they sell.

The Food and Drink

The menu at Malton Relish is brilliant for a quick lunch or a leisurely coffee break. They serve breakfast and lunch Tuesday to Saturday, from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. Today we grabbed coffee and some tasty food from their counter, but they also do awesome sandwiches and paninis if you fancy something more substantial.

The pork pie my husband tried was absolutely delicious – proper Yorkshire quality. Their sausage rolls are equally good, with that perfect flaky pastry. If you’re a vegetarian, you’ll be pleased to know they have a large vegetarian selection too. The cafe counter is always stocked with cakes and savoury pasties, so there’s plenty to choose from whatever your mood.

Local Produce and Small Wares

Beyond the cafe, Malton Relish is a brilliant deli selling all sorts of local food products. Their cheese counter is particularly impressive, with a carefully curated selection of Yorkshire cheeses. They also stock small wares, condiments, biscuits and other treats that make perfect gifts or additions to your own kitchen cupboards.

They’ve won a prestigious 3-star Great Taste Award for their Fruit Cake and a 2-star award for their Figgy Pudding.

The space feels like a proper community hub, where locals catch up over coffee, and visitors discover the best of Yorkshire’s food scene.
