There are many cafes to explore in Malton, and we recently visited another excellent coffee shop that serves exceptional coffee. Roost Coffee is a small-batch roastery, allowing you to enjoy fresh coffee while also purchasing their signature blends and single-origin roasts at an affordable price.

Roost Coffee and Roastery sits in Talbot Yard, Malton. This lovely coffee shop is the perfect place to visit for a quiet coffee, hidden away from the town centre. It’s inside Talbot Yard, which is home to six artisan food and drink producers, including our favourite patisserie, Florian Poirot.
You’ll find it inside an 18th-century Grade II listed carriage house near the historic Talbot Hotel. The outdoor seating area has stunning views of North Yorkshire.
At The Roost Espresso Bar, you’ll enjoy an artisan coffee experience. Skilled baristas use fresh, high-quality beans that are roasted on-site. There’s seating both outdoors and inside. There are leather sofas to relax on and plenty of space to enjoy a drink in a relaxed environment.
The prices are really reasonable; I was surprised at how cheap they were. The service was quick – the only downside is that they don’t offer coffee syrups, so I couldn’t add a caramel shot to my latte. They also have a small selection of pastries. We didn’t get anything to eat, though, as we had just bought macarons from Florian Poirot, so we ate those instead. A very good combination!

Roost Coffee uses electric roasters — which is unusual and notably more eco-friendly than gas roasting. It’s the kind of thing you’d hope was standard, but isn’t always.

They offer a subscription that sends you a fresh 250g bag of coffee beans every month, allowing you to try different types of coffee and their new and exclusive blends. Roost was a great place to go for coffee, especially if you want to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine! We went on a Saturday, late morning. It wasn’t too busy, and there was plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. I also bought some coffee beans. I can’t pretend to know a lot about different coffee types and flavours, but I just picked the one I liked the sound of.
