McMillan’s of Malton is located on Market Street and offers a wide selection of whiskeys, as well as their wines and spirits. The man in the shop knew a lot about Whiskey and was able to recommend products based on what my husband said he liked. The first time we went, he let my husband try three samples and then he picked his favourite.
The second time we went, we had friends over. I had been over to another shop with our friend’s wife, while the boys went to the Whisky shop. When we arrived to meet them, the shop was empty. So we said, ‘Er, we’re looking for our husbands.’ At first, he said he hadn’t seen them, then laughed as he opened a secret door that was disguised as one of the shelves and directed us upstairs to The Library Bar.
The Library Bar Malton Experience
You enter The Library Bar through a secret door, and the space is decorated with lots of cosy corners and soft lighting, making it perfect for a quiet drink. It appears to be inspired by an old library or bookshop, with old books, tills, and ornate furniture arranged around the various seating nooks. There are old maps, vintage prints, small lamps, and rows of old books.
There are over 200 whiskies from all over the world, and the staff can give you recommendations. The Library Bar also offers a selection of craft cocktails, fine wines, and local beers, and even stocks Malton’s Rare Bird gin.
Exclusive Locker System for Regulars
There is a wooden and glass display case that resembles a library, but holds whisky and spirits. These are the library lockers which allow members to store their favourite bottles at The Library Bar. Having a locker comes with perks such as 10% off drinks at the bar and table reservations. They also host various events, such as tasting sessions, so be sure to check their website for updates.
