22. Northern Lights at Temple Newsam

Running from 21st November to 31st December, the immersive festive experience has been completely reimagined for 2025. After attracting over 100,000 visitors last year, they’ve gone all out to make this year even more spectacular.

The star of the show is Lily of the Lake – a massive six-metre-wide mirrored lily floating on the Menagerie Ponds. Created by award-winning Australian designers Mandylights, it’s got colour-changing neon lights around each petal and underwater lighting that creates this incredible rippling effect. It sounds stunning!

You’ll also find Jungle Tree, where the winter woodland gets transformed into a digital rainforest with neon vines and hanging lights, all set to jungle sounds. Then there’s Winter Reflections – a clever installation that looks completely different depending on where you’re standing. From far away, it’s programmed snowflakes and festive patterns, but up close it’s swirling, abstract lights.

There’s also Tulips – a forest of giant glowing flowers between 3 and 6 metres tall that’s like stepping into Alice in Wonderland.

Food & Drink

The Christmas Village is back with loads of tasty options from local vendors. You can grab gourmet burgers from The Otley Burger Company, loaded hot dogs from Diamond Dogs, authentic Spanish churros, plus all the usual festive treats like mulled wine, hot chocolate, and toasted marshmallows. There’ll be vintage fairground rides too!

What Else You Need to Know

Northern Lights have made loads of improvements this year including better car parking, neuro-inclusive sensory slots with reduced capacity and lower audio, an easier booking system, and reduced capacity at peak times so it’s not as crowded.

The one-mile paved trail features over fifteen illuminated zones with light installations from international and local artists, all set to beautiful musical scores. More details on vendors, charity partners, and additional illuminations coming soon!
