If there is one space in the home that everyone should be able to escape and enjoy in peace, it is the bedroom. We get dressed, dance, relax, sleep and more there. It is a sacred sanctuary, and the more people you have in your home – the more you need to make sure that the space is just for you.
Our bedrooms help with the following things: destresses, thinking time and clarity, rejuvenating after difficult days, rest, and connection. A calm bedroom is very helpful.

Many people, though, spend so much time making sure the rest of the house is well maintained because so many other people see those areas. And the bedroom gets pushed to the last thing on the list.
So now you know why the bedroom matters, it is time to make some changes to make sure that everything from your bedroom temperature to the bedroom furniture adds up to the most relaxing space that you have in the home – and it is just for you.
Bedside table
If your bedside table is cluttered and covered in miscellaneous items, that clutter can impact your sleep. Clutter around us has a direct impact on our mental health – and unfortunately, it becomes something we think about subconsciously all the time.
Because it is right next to us, it is easy to throw things on there once you have finished using them. Phones, make-up wipes. Tissues, hand cream and face cream jars, charger wires and more.
Make a point of cleaning it down every few days so it doesn’t become a bigger task than it needs to be.
Scent
There is nothing so wonderful as fresh sheets, but unless you are washing them every day, that is tough to keep. There are a lot of scents that are great for the bedroom. If you want to make sure that it is a sanctuary for sleepy time and relaxation, then lavender is the best scent for that.
Although bergamot, chamomile and ylang-ylang have a similar impact.
For something light and fresh, think lemons, linens, sea breeze and other summertime or fruity scents.
Smells have a direct impact on how we feel, and our feeling dictates if we are going to get some comfortable sleep and rest or not.
Wake up light
For those who are still using their mobile phone for an alarm and being jolted away by a sharp alarm every morning – there is a better way. Take a look at sunrise clocks instead. They start to emit a warm tone that mimics the sunrise (which starts our body kinking into wake-up mode) slowly over the space of 30 minutes.
They usually have a few different options so you can find the right one for you, but ultimately you’ll end up with a gentle wake-up with some warm tones and birdsong. Much better than being scared into being every morning by a mobile phone.
Comfort
When it comes to your personal comfort, what do you feel that you need? Is it more blankets? Plants? Pictures on the wall? Take some time to think about what you need to be surrounded by to ensure that you get the best from your bedroom at all times.
