Last week I went to Ryans Kitchen on Kirkstall Road in Leeds. It’s Jamaican-style food – spicy but not overpowering. They offer take-out or you can sit at the few tables in the restaurant. It’s not the type of place would go for a fancy meal – more of a street food/fast food type of place. It was perfect for us after we went bouldering!

My Ryan’s Kitchen Review

We decided to share dishes so we could try two and it was a great idea!

We ordered the jerk jackfruit and curried goat. The goat curried goat was so tasty! The sauce was delicious and it was a bit spicy but not so much so.

The jackfruit wasn’t as nice, the sauce was a bit sweet and I’m not a fan of sweet dishes. It was still nice but just not my personal preference, I can see how other people would really love it. The jackfruit is a weird texture. I expected it to have a bit more of a meaty texture than it was. I couldn’t really taste it much, just the sauce, but I guess it’s the type of thing that takes on any flavour you cook it in.

I would go here again and try more dishes. It’s a great price and great for a lunchtime option!

  1. Oh everything looks delicious! I love Jamaican food. I’m trying to get used to jackfruit because it’s supposed to be the next big meat alternative but I’m just not crazy about the texture.
