Sushi Waka in York is on George Hudson Street, opposite one of my favourite places to eat – Red Chilli.
I’ve never had proper sushi before. Only the type you get in supermarkets and that’s cooked fish so doesn’t really count.
The menu is really big, there’s starters, sushi platters, bento boxes, different types of sushi and sashimi you can order, ramen bowls and more.
I wasn’t sure whether to get a ramen bowl and a plate of sushi rolls but then decided to get one of the platters that had a mix of everything on.
The service wasn’t brilliant and the beer is expensive! £5 for a 330ml bottle. When we ordered a drink with food, they forgot to bring the drinks and we had to ask for them again. Then the food came out at different times. I think they just had one sushi chef on and we were a table of about 10. By the time the last people got their order, I had eaten mine! It meant we were sat waiting for a long time and spent about 3 hours there.
The sushi was really nice though, apart from the fact I put too much wasabi on as usual. I never learn!
I’d recommend this for smaller groups, but not for big groups as you’ll be waiting a long time for your food!
