It’s nice to finally visit Byron Burger York! The first time I went to Byron Burger was in London. I had a bit too much to drink and managed to tip it on me. Luckily, my boyfriend managed to reach over and save it from going completely everywhere. That’s a great impression I made for our 4th date. Well done, Corinne. And now we are married with a child, so this trick at the burger joint must have worked!
Anyway, let’s move on to this burger review!

My Byron Burger York Review
First Visit (2017)
We went to Byron Burger York last week with a friend.
I had the C-Rex burger, which is the same as the B-Rex burger but with chicken. It comes with an onion ring, streaky bacon, American cheese, jalapenos, pickles, onion, BBQ sauce and mayonnaise.

As I’m trying to lose a bit of timber, I asked to swap my bun out for a side salad. I also had my chicken burger grilled instead of fried. The sauce came in a pot on its own rather than on the burger, which I thought was good. I have no idea if other burger places offer the same thing but I hope they do.
Our friend is also lactose intolerant and when he asked for the burger with no cheese, the waitress offered a different topping so he had avocado instead. I thought this was brilliant customer service and shows they really care about dietary requirements.

The waitress was really friendly and chatty and spoke to us a little about how much she loved cheese.
Byron burger prices were decent; for 3 burgers, 2 lots of fries, a beer, wine and coke, it came to around £46. Not bad at all.
I don’t really have anything bad to say about Byron Burger from this visit. Maybe just adding a few healthier options with the nutritional information on the menu – this might be handy for those boring people like me who are tracking calories! (Update: They’ve now added this to their website which is great!)
Byron Burger is a more casual place to dine rather than somewhere you would want to go for a nice meal. It’s perfect for a relaxed lunch or casual dinner with friends.

Return Visit (February 2023)
We have been to Byron Burger twice again recently. The first was when we walked into York in the February 2023 half-term. We decided to stop in for lunch. I had the B-Rex burger this time which was lovely. The B-Rex could be one of the best burgers in York!
My 2-year-old had some tater tots as he’s picky and he actually ate them! This was a win for us as he doesn’t usually eat much when we’re out.
Press Visit (2023)
A few weeks later, I got invited for a press visit so we went again. I decided to get the limited edition Rarebit Burger which had rarebit cheese and smoked bacon. The bacon was cooked to perfection and it gave the burger so much flavour.
I also got fries loaded with cheese and bacon. I have to say that these loaded fries aren’t the best. It’s a cheese sauce but it would have been nice to have some freshly grated cheese on them instead.
My husband got the B-Rex burger which is always a favourite. I think I preferred the B-Rex burger over the Rarebit, but it was nice to try something different. The B-Rex remains our go-to order!
At this visit in 2023, we spent about £60 on 2 burgers, 3 sides, two pints of beer and an alcohol-free beer.
Byron Burger York Menu
The Byron Burger menu has evolved since our first visit in 2017. They now offer some really exciting options!
Current Menu Highlights (2026)
The Burgers:
- The Dirty Byron – beef burger with BBQ pulled beef, Byron cheese, beef dripping mayo, burger relish, pickled red onions, bacon & onion crumb, served with dipping gravy
- The Big Cheese – for cheese lovers
- BBQ Chicken – a crowd-pleaser
- The Classic Byron – their signature burger
- B-Rex – our personal favourite!
- Chilli Burger – for those who like a kick
Choose Your Patty: One thing I love about Byron Burger now is you can choose between their signature thick and juicy patty OR a double smash burger. The double smash option has two slightly smaller patties that are smashed onto the grill and crisped to perfection. It’s a great option if you want something a bit different!
Vegetarian & Vegan Options: Byron Burger has really improved their plant-based offerings, with vegan burgers and vegetarian options throughout the menu. This is perfect if you’re dining with people who have different dietary preferences.
Sides:
- Classic fries
- Loaded fries (various toppings)
- Onion rings
- Macaroni cheese
- Tater tots (great for kids!)
- Salads
