That’s why it’s best to get to know your child’s current reading level and read with them. Buy some of the best decodable readers and introduce them to your child. Then, get to know how they sound out words and make it through sentences.
While you’re at it, talk to them about what they’re reading and what they think it means. It’ll give you a much better picture of the kind of learner they are. It also helps to reinforce the learning they’ve just been through; saying it out loud always helps!
Be Present During Homework
When you sit with your child as they’re doing their homework, they might just find it a lot easier to stay on task, understand the more complex problems, and see homework as something more normal and mundane (rather than annoying and frustrating).
Help your child with their work, but give them some space to work things out on their own too. The most important thing is to just be there in case they need you, and so they feel like you’ve got their back in the face of the big homework monster!
