There are so many reasons why you should make your next big move to Yorkshire. With picturesque landscapes, friendly locals, and vibrant cities steeped in history and culture, there’s something for everyone up north. I’ve lived in Yorkshire my whole life and love it!

In this article, I’ll be discussing the benefits of living in England’s biggest county, from countryside living to affordable house prices.

House prices

Firstly, house prices in the north are significantly lower than those in the south of England. The average house price in Yorkshire currently stands at £203,631. When you compare that to the average house price of £482,800 in London, moving to Yorkshire is a no-brainer.

The region has plenty of properties that are full of charm and character. Whether you’re on the hunt for a period property, or one of the many suburban new builds in Leeds, Sheffield, or York – it’s no doubt that you’ll get more for your money in the north.

Scenic landscape

Yorkshire is well-renowned for its endless views of beautiful rolling hills. It offers the perfect rural escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The Yorkshire Dales are just one of the many scenic landscapes in the region. Known for its breathtaking views and stunning natural attractions, such as Aysgarth Falls and Malham Cove, there’s so much to discover among its natural green valleys.

Cultural hub

It’s no secret that Yorkshire is home to a diverse selection of historical and cultural exhibitions. Celebrating the achievements of artists who lived and worked in the region, there are so many museums and galleries to admire their works.

Take a trip to the Brontë Parsonage Museum in Howarth. Here, the Brontë sisters famously wrote some of their most beloved works surrounded by the idyllic Yorkshire moors.

Or, visit the Jorvik Viking Centre in York and discover the city’s fascinating Viking legacy. Step back in time and explore the unique collection of Viking artefacts, as well as experiencing the sights, sounds, and smells of the Viking age.

Brilliant education

If you’re making the move to Yorkshire with the kids, you can rest assured that the region boasts an exceptional standard of high-quality education facilities. Ripon Grammar School, located just outside the popular Victoria spa town of Harrogate, has been ranked as the number one state school in Yorkshire.

You’ll also find a selection of prestigious Russell Group universities, including the University of Leeds, University of York, and University of Sheffield

Best of both worlds

Yorkshire is an incredibly versatile location, offering both peaceful countryside living and the vibrant buzz of city life. You’ll also be within easy reach of the coast, where you can enjoy the refreshing sea air and leisurely strolls along the beach. It really is an ideal destination as you’re guaranteed the best of both.
