Let’s be honest, the world is looking a little more bleak than at the moment. We switch on our television, our radios, and we look at our social media, and we’re met with a lot of negativity in the world. From wars and conflicts starting or continuing in countries across the world, to problems happening on our own soil.

It seems as though many of us are more divided than we are united, and that can be a hard situation to cope with, especially when it’s hard to see the light and hope in it all.
However, there are ways that you can help the world get out of the mess, but for most, it’s protecting your peace that becomes improtant when you can only do so much. Here’s how to create and cultivate a positive mindset amidst so much negativity that currently exists in the world.
1. Try to practice gratitude and mindfulness
One of the most influential things you can do for the sake of your own well-being is to practice gratitude. Knowing what you have in life and being able to appreciate that for what it is is important.
Being able to regularly acknowledge and express the appreciation you have for the good things in your life can really help to shift the focus from what you might be lacking. Of course, there will always be people out there who have it better or worse than you do. It’s important that you find ways to practice gratitude for your own wins in life.
Mindfulness is spending the time to be mindful of what you have in your life and how to be more present so that you can fully appreciate the good you have.
2. Be positive in the way you talk to yourself
If you were to be in front of yourself as a child, talking to yourself the way you often critique your body or your personality, how do you think that would make your child self feel? Probably upset, right?
So why would you treat yourself so negatively? It can be easy enough to self-critique and to take out the negativity on yourself, but it’s important to try and change that attitude that you have.
Replace any negative self-criticism that you’re telling yourself with positive affirmations and encouraging thoughts instead. Try to be aware of when these negative thoughts and feelings are creeping in so that you can take action as quickly as you can.
Try to surround yourself with people who bring out your positive side, too. If there are toxic individuals who are encouraging you to be nasty to others or to criticise yourself, then these are people you probably want to cut out of your life.
3. Set goals for yourself, but be realistic
When you’re trying to create a positive mindset for yourself, especially in this negative world, goals are a good way to find yourself again.
However, it’s important to try and be as realistic as you can with the goals you give yourself. Make sure you’re giving yourself enough time to in order to achieve these goals because otherwise, you’ll likely end up doing more damage to your wellbeing by trying to complete these goals too quickly.
What would you like to achieve in life? Are the goals applicable to just your career, or do you have goals within your personal life that you’d like to check off, too? Perhaps you’re looking to do good in the world through volunteer work as part of the extra time you have available?
There are lots of reasons to have goals and plenty of goals to create. Consider what goals you could set for yourself, and be realistic with those goals, too.
4. Have forgiveness for yourself and others, where possible
It’s important to make it clear that you don’t always have to forgive and forget something that someone has done. For yourself, though, it’s imperative that you’re able to acknowledge and come to terms with what has happened before letting go of it in your life.

Any harm that you’ve brought to yourself or that others have done to you should ideally be processed and let go of. Where you can offer forgiveness, you should give it, and where you’re happy to receive it and accept it, then that should be something you allow too.
Many of us will find a way to hold onto something, which then often becomes a consuming part of our lives. When the worst things happen to us, it’s important to let go and not allow it any more time. It’s already likely taken enough already.
5. Look for solutions in life and not more issues
A positive mindset needs to be cultivated through solutions and not more issues. If you’re only finding the problems or issues in life, then that’s just going to keep you down that hole you’re perhaps already in.
Looking for solutions in life is a helpful way to see the positives in life, even when you’re surrounded by a lot of negative thoughts.
Instead of dwelling on problems, try to train your mind to identify the potential solutions around you. That’s something that can be done in any facet of life, from your personal issues to work problems that crop up on a daily or weekly basis.
Being a problem solver is a great way to push you towards a more positive mindset as a result. Not only that, but it helps you create a more joyous and happier life too.
6. Practice random acts of kindness
There’s often not enough kindness in the world, and if there is, it’s always masked by the negativity.
Therefore, a good way you can help get out of the negative pit you might be in, especially when you see the negativity in the world, is to practice random acts of kindness where possible.
It could be paying for someone’s shopping or fast food order at the drive-thru. It could be helping someone carry a heavy suitcase down the stairs or stopping a bus for someone who is running to catch it. Sometimes, these random acts of kindness can be a great way to give back to the world that’s hurting.
7. Embrace challenges and setbacks as opportunities
Challenges and setbacks are likely to happen in many parts of life. None of us is immune to the struggles of life in general, some having it much worse than others. However, regardless of the hurt or struggle you’re facing, embrace these challenges and setbacks as opportunities.

When you see something as negative, it’s clearly not serving you. Instead of seeing a failure as a negative, see it as a positive learning opportunity.
It’s something that can be adapted for anything in life. For example, if you’re struggling to win a game in Wordle, see that failure as an opportunity to learn and discover where you’re going wrong in order to succeed next time around.
8. Don’t forget to celebrate your accomplishments in life
Finally, don’t forget to celebrate the major and minor accomplishments that you make in your lifetime. There’s always something to be celebrated, and when you’re struggling in the moment, there’s plenty to celebrate and be happy about.
Instead of critiquing your mistakes, focus on the positives. Make the time to celebrate all the wins you have in life, however small or big they may be.
Cultivating a positive mindset is healthy to do, so make sure to follow these tips to live a happier and more fulfilled life.
