1. Under-Bed Storage

A platform bed or a storage bed can significantly increase your storage options. These beds come with built-in storage compartments underneath, which can be ideal for stowing away seasonal clothing, bedding, or other less frequently used items.

2. Go for a Platform Bed

A platform bed can offer a lot of storage space without compromising style or comfort. With its raised design, you can easily use the space underneath for storage. You can use storage baskets, rolling storage bins, or pull-out drawers to keep your items neatly organised and easy to access.

We have pull-out draws under our bed. We had to pay extra for them but it was worth it!

3. Consider a Storage Bed

If you’re not fond of the raised look of a platform bed, a storage bed might be a better option. These beds usually have built-in drawers or compartments, giving you a sleek and convenient place to store your belongings. Some storage beds even come with a lift-up mechanism that allows you to access the entire under-bed area.

4. Bedside Tables with Drawers

A bedside table is more than just a spot to place your reading glasses or a cup of herbal tea. It’s a crucial piece of furniture that can provide additional storage. I personally can’t live without a bedside table – I need water by my bed, plus a light and my phone.

Choosing a bedside table with drawers or cabinets can help keep your bedroom looking tidy and organised. You can use the drawers to store small items like reading glasses, phone chargers, or bedtime reading materials, keeping your bedroom free from clutter. It’s a great way to use the small space by your bed. The drawers in our bedside cabinets have all those faffy little items you don’t know where else to put.

5. Repurpose a Chest of Drawers

If you don’t have much space in your bedroom for a stand-alone chest of drawers, try using a chest of drawers as a bedside table. This can give lots of storage for your things while also giving you a handy table top to place your alarm clock or bedside lamp.

6. Make Full Use of Your Floor Space with a Storage Bench

A storage bench can be a great addition to any bedroom, offering both additional seating and extra storage space. It’s perfect for storing cushions or extra bed linen. You could even use it for your shoes. Plus, it can also serve as a handy spot for getting dressed in the morning or putting on your shoes and socks. They look great at the foot of your bed.

7. Go for an Ottoman Bed

Your bed frame doesn’t have to be just a supporting structure for your mattress. With a little creativity, it can double up as a storage solution.

Ottoman beds have a lift-up system so you can access a large storage area underneath the mattress. This type of bed is perfect if you’re short on closet space or if you just want to keep your bedroom looking neat and tidy. I think it’s a great idea to put your seasonal clothing in these, so you can swap them every 6 months as the weather gets warmer and colder. It’s great for storing your winter or summer duvet, too.

8. Try a Murphy Bed

If you’re really short on space, a Murphy bed might be the perfect solution. These beds can be tucked away into a wall or cabinet when not in use, freeing up floor space. And the best part is, some Murphy beds come with built-in shelving or storage units, giving you even more storage options.

This work great for studio apartments, or if your bedroom has multiple functions, such as a home office as well.

9. Use Wicker Baskets for Under-Bed Storage

Wicker baskets are both aesthetically pleasing and incredibly versatile. You can use them to store things like books and magazines to blankets and pillows.

If you have space under your bed, don’t let it go to waste, use wicker baskets to create a stylish under-bed storage solution. You can use different-sized baskets to store various items, and they can easily be slid out when you need to access something.

10. Wicker Baskets into Your Wardrobe Space

Wardrobe space is often limited, especially in smaller bedrooms. By putting some wicker baskets into your wardrobe, you can create additional storage areas for your clothes, shoes, and accessories, you can also put them on top of your wardrobe.

11. Use Floating Shelves as a Bedside Table

Floating shelves can be a fantastic storage solution for small bedrooms. They take up minimal space, can be placed almost anywhere, and provide a perfect spot for displaying your favourite decorative items or storing your books.

If you’re short on floor space, use a floating shelf as a bedside table instead. You can store your bedtime essentials on the shelf, and it won’t take up any floor space. We had floating shelves in our old bedroom as there wasn’t enough space between the bed and wall for bedside cabinets. It was a great solution for being able to have a drink, lamp and phone next to me in bed.

12. Install Floating Shelves in Dead Spaces

Every home has its share of dead spaces – those awkward corners or wall spaces that are too small to accommodate a piece of furniture. Floating shelves can be a great way to use these dead spaces, providing you with additional storage areas.

13. Invest in a Built-In Wardrobe

A fitted wardrobe is a fantastic use of space in a small bedroom. It can be tailored to fit your space perfectly so that every inch is put to good use.

A built-in wardrobe will give you plenty of storage space without taking up too much room – especially as it uses the full length of the wall. It can be built into an existing wall, making it a great option for small bedrooms. You can use the wardrobe to store your clothes, shoes, and accessories, freeing up other storage areas in your bedroom.

We have fitted wardrobes and I love the large shelf at the top for storing things we don’t need every day!

14. Consider a Storage Headboard

A storage headboard can provide you with additional space to store your belongings without taking up any extra room. This is really handy if you don’t have space for bedside cabinets.

It can have shelves, drawers, or compartments where you can store books, accessories, and other items. A storage headboard can also serve as a stylish focal point in your bedroom, it’s quite a unique feature!

15. Make Use of Dead Space with a Chest of Drawers

A chest of drawers can be a perfect solution for making use of dead space in your bedroom. Whether it’s an awkward corner or a wall that’s too small for a large piece of furniture, a chest of drawers can fit snugly into these spaces, providing you with plenty of storage space.

16. Closet Door Storage

The back of your wardrobe or main door can provide valuable storage space. By installing hooks, racks, or hanging organisers, you can store everything from shoes and accessories to coats and bags, all without taking up any additional space in your bedroom.

We have one on our bedroom door, I use it for jackets and cardigans.

17. Keep Things Out of Sight with a Tilt-Out Laundry Hamper

A tilt-out laundry hamper is a fantastic way to keep your dirty laundry out of sight. It can be integrated into existing furniture or built into a closet, making it a discreet and space-saving storage solution.

18. Hanging Closet Organiser

The hanging closet organiser is a game-changer when it comes to maximising your wardrobe space and staying organised. With multiple tiers of storage pockets and compartments, this smart solution lets you keep shoes, accessories, folded garments, and more neatly arranged and easily accessible. I used to have a closet organiser that had small pockets for jewellery – it was so useful to store all my jewellery safely and to stop it from getting tangled.

From socks and bras to ties, belts, and jewellery, drawer dividers keep everything in its place, eliminating the hassle of searching through messy drawers. You can customise the layout according to your specific needs, drawer dividers provide a great storage solution for your drawer storage.

I use this in my son’s room to keep his clothes organised and in my underwear drawer to keep socks, tights and bras separated.

21. Corner Shelving Units

Corner shelving units are a great use of space. You can transform unused nooks into valuable storage space in your bedroom, guest rooms or smaller rooms. With the added benefit of saving time when choosing the perfect pair, shoe racks are a practical and stylish addition to your bedroom organisation, ensuring a clean and well-kept living space.

We are lucky to have a utility room where we can keep a shoe rack downstairs. In the past, I’ve had to keep them on a shoe rack in my room, especially when I was in house-shares in my mid-20s.

24. Bedside Wall Pockets

Bedside wall pockets are a brilliant bedroom storage solution for keeping your essentials close at hand while eliminating bedside clutter.
