Hey everyone! It’s been 3 months since I started my piano lessons, so thought I’d give an update.
I’ve been having a 30-minute lesson every two weeks.
I have a background in keyboard, I was working towards my grade 8 exam in around 2005 – but then went to university and haven’t done much since. I’ve tried to learn on my own but always gave up. Piano is a lot different from the keyboard and a lot different! But I’m determined to make it work.
I think I’ve been working mostly around grade 3ish pieces. I started an Instagram account to share my process. You can follow it here: https://www.instagram.com/corinneplays/
I’ve not uploaded in a while because I’ve been working on some Christmas songs and would like to publish those in December.
I’ve been practising almost every day for around an hour and more on the weekends when I’ve had time.
Other than the music my piano teacher gives me, I’ve been learning some other bits and have been playing around with improvisation and playing by ear just to keep things exciting – though my main focus has been getting the songs my teacher gives me right as I have to go and play them in front of her!
I find a lot of the time that I play well at home, but when I go to my lessons I make a mistake that I’ve never made before. Her piano is a grand piano and it feels a lot different to my crappy entry-level digital so I’m keen to upgrade.
I’m really enjoying it – it’s probably one of the reasons I’ve not been updating this blog as much because I’ve been wanting to spend more time practising. I’ll drop some of my Instagram posts before – be gentle, I’m not a pro and not as good as some of those amazing musicians on Instagram!
