 Essence Waterproof Eyeliner Pen

Hi kids,

I’m exploring the world of eyeliner pens, apparently. I first tried the Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner last month. Unfortunately this has dried out as I lost the lid. Even though I didn’t even move from my seat. Talented.

It’s kind of funny that in the review post, I mentioned I always lose my pencil sharpener, so a pen that doesn’t need to be sharpened is a great alternative for someone as rubbish and irresponsible as me. Then I go and lose the lid. FML.

After losing the lid, I then lived in fear of it drying out for the next few weeks. Major fear because I look like a totally different human with no eyeliner. An ugly human. An ugly human that everyone hates and makes children cry when they look at it. I’m not even kidding or being dramatic. If the 5 makeup items tag was a 1 makeup item tag, eye liner would be the thing I pick over everything else.

The Soap and Glory liner slowly got less and less visible, until it got to the point of hardly ever showing up. I hope that it was the loss of the lid that did this, rather than it just having a short.. um… wet-life? Guess we’ll never know!

I mentioned this waterproof eyeliner pen in my Essence Haul last week and decided to give it a go after the death of the Soap and Glory one.

Naturally, I am documenting this experience for your reading pleasure.

So, the packaging is simple and wouldn’t really have caught my eye, but you don’t wear the packaging so I guess that means shit in the real world.

It’s a simple black pen with a felt tip. It’s pointy so you can easily change the thickness of the lines by adding and removing pressure, as well as the angle you hold the pent at. I am sure that I am not using any of the correct ‘terms’ here. I’m rubbish at makeup.

It is a dark black, darker than the Soap and Glory eyeliner and also had much better staying power! The Soap and Glory one was good, but towards the end of the day it would be rubbing off, whereas this waterproof liner doesn’t budge until you wash it off. I even slept in it once (or twice.. naughty pants) and it was still more visible than the Soap and Glory liner/any pencil liners at the end of the day that I’ve used.

Although I am not that experienced in eyeliner pens (yet), this is definitely the better of the two I’ve tried so far! I’ve just ordered a new one to try out when this has ran out. I’ve been using it for a week so far and it’s still as good as the first time I’ve used it! I’m not sure what the life expectancy should be, but I’m hoping for a few more weeks out of it. Otherwise I’ll be going back to pencil.

Please tell me your favourite eyeliners!

  3. Great review! I am 110% rubbish at eyeliner, there I said it! I can never make my eyes match, I never seem to get close enough to the lash line and well, it’s just always a disaster! I will keep trying, i don’t want to be the reason little kids cry!

  5. Pants that you never managed to find the lid that is exactly something I would do. You will probably find it when you no longer have a use for it because the product has dried out. Glad that you found a new one and that it is good product Lucy. X

  6. I was using the Soap and Glory one for a while but I didn’t like that it wasn’t waterproof and by the end of the day it would smudge. I have long days I need my eyeliner to be on my face at ALL times!
I bought the essence one a few weeks a go and have been using it as my work eyeliner (I think I already told you this in the haul post…), I like it. I like the colour, I like the pen. I also got a good one from Catrice Cosmetics. BUT…. my fav fav fav one at the moment is The Balm one, it’s a matte black, something I hadn’t seen before and it’s freaking awesome. I love the matte colour!

  7. This one looks much better on you than the Soap & glory liner did. Hopefully you don’t lose the lid to this one 🙂

  8. I don’t really have a favourite yet but I love the look of this eyeliner! I’ve never tried anything from essence before but it looks so precise

  9. This sounds amazing! Thank you for leaving the recommendation on my blog, I’ll have to look out for it 🙂 xx
