ad. If you have a five-year-old, you’ll know that slow mornings don’t just happen. You have to earn them, actually, no, that’s not right. You don’t earn them at all; you just have to get lucky. Most Saturdays, I’m up before 7 am, the school run is still fresh in my body’s muscle memory, and any idea of a gentle start to the day disappears the second his small feet hit the landing ‘Muuuum, I’m awaaaaakeeee’.
But this particular Saturday? The stars aligned. Spring has a way of doing that — the mornings are lighter, the air feels different, and there’s this quiet energy that makes you want to actually do something with the day rather than just survive it. The sun was already coming through the curtains when I woke up, the house was quiet, and somehow — miraculously — my son stayed in bed until 9 am. I didn’t dare move too fast in case I broke the spell. Instead, I padded downstairs in my new British Boxers pyjamas and decided to actually do the morning properly for once.

The Burnet Rose Tartan Set
I’ve been working with British Boxers for a little while now, and every time a new season rolls around, I’m excited to see what they’ve come out with. There’s always a moment in late winter when I start feeling done with my darker, heavier sets — ready for something that feels a bit fresher. This spring, they sent me the Burnet Rose Tartan pyjama set, and the colourway alone got me. It’s that dusty, muted pink crossed with soft earthy tones — it really does look like spring on fabric. I’m not usually someone who goes for pink in clothes, but I really like this combo!

The fabric is where British Boxers really earn their reputation. The set is 100% brushed cotton, which, if you’ve not experienced it before, is a completely different thing from regular cotton. The fibres are dyed to their own colour specification, then brushed repeatedly — it’s that brushing process that gives it the softness — and then it is finally woven. What you end up with is something that feels almost impossibly soft against your skin. The kind of soft where you put them on and immediately don’t want to take them off. I’ve had previous sets from British Boxers for over a year now and they still feel and look great. These aren’t pyjamas you’ll be replacing in six months.
The jacket has a traditional rounded collar with a breast pocket and a lovely curved hem — it’s the kind of cut that actually looks put-together. The trousers are tie-waist with side pockets, and if you’ve been here before, you’ll know I feel strongly about pyjama pockets. Phones, snacks, a hair bobble you find on the kitchen counter at 8am — pockets are non-negotiable. British Boxers added them by popular demand, apparently, which tells you they actually listen to their customers.
One thing worth mentioning is sizing — they go from Petite all the way to XXL, which is a solid range, and if you’re unsure, they recommend sizing up for a looser fit. I’d agree with that. There’s nothing worse than pyjamas that feel restrictive. The whole point is comfort. For context, I wear a ‘large’ and I’m 5ft 7 and wear a size UK12.

The Morning
So. Slow Saturday morning, quiet house, good pyjamas. I opened the kitchen window a crack — one of those first mornings where the air outside actually smells like spring rather than just cold — and made a proper breakfast. Eggs on toast with avocado, a big glass of orange juice, a coffee that I actually got to drink while it was still hot. If you’re a parent, you understand what a luxury that last part is.
There’s something about a morning like this that feels like a reset. Spring does that anyway — longer days, more light, that low-level urge to open windows and clear things out and start fresh. I’d been in full winter hibernation mode for months, and this felt like the first morning I’d properly surfaced. I wasn’t rushing, I wasn’t half-eating something while getting a packed lunch together. I was just… cooking, slowly, in a sunny kitchen, in pyjamas I genuinely love wearing. That’s it. That was the whole thing, and it was brilliant. Afterwards, I felt so productive and energised.

The Burnet Rose tartan felt completely right for it. Spring is that weird in-between season where it’s sunny but not yet warm enough to feel properly light, and this set sits right in that mood — cosy enough that you’re not cold, but the colours are bright enough that you feel like the season has actually shifted. I’ve lived in my darker British Boxers sets all winter, so pulling on something in these softer pinks and greens felt like a proper reset. New season, new pyjamas, same very good cup of coffee.
Is the price worth it?
I know £115 is a significant spend on pyjamas, and it’s a fair thing to think about. What I’d say is this: I’ve been wearing British Boxers sets for over a year, and the ones I got in 2024 still look exactly as they did when I first put them on. They wash beautifully at 30 degrees, they haven’t bobbled, they haven’t lost their softness. If you spread £115 across regular wear over a couple of years, you’re actually paying much less per wear than a cheaper set you’d replace every few months.

They’re also just… genuinely nice to wear. There’s a difference between pyjamas you put on because you need to sleep and pyjamas you actually look forward to putting on. These are the second kind. My previous sets are proof of that — I still reach for them.
The Details
The Burnet Rose set is available in sizes Petite through to XXL, so there’s a good range. British Boxers also make matching pieces — a dressing gown, nightshirt, pyjama trousers and sleep shorts — all in the same print if you want to mix and match. They’re an ethical company too, which matters to me; most of their products are made in the UK and EU, and they’re committed to fair wages and good working conditions throughout their supply chain.

My slow Saturday morning eventually ended, as they always do — my son appeared at 9:15am asking for breakfast and whether we could go to the park. But I’d had a good hour and a half of quiet, a hot coffee, and a breakfast I actually got to enjoy. For a parent of a five year old, that’s basically a spa day.
