A beautiful garden is absolutely something that we should prioritise, especially as the temperatures are increasing. I can’t wait to get into my garden this summer, my little boy loves it, too. We’re a few months away from the summer, but there’s no reason why we can’t take the time now to get our garden ready. Here are a few fantastic decorative ideas I would love to try:

An Outdoor Fireplace

Put simply, an outdoor fireplace is an amazing design feature that creates a beautiful focal point during those summer evenings. If you have grand visions of barbecues and parties long into the night, an outdoor fireplace is something that will instantly elevate the magical appeal of your garden.

Cosy Seating

One of the best tricks for summer relaxation is to hang a porch swing or set up an outdoor seating area. Porch swings, in particular, are wonderful because we can all picture ourselves unwinding when the sun is beaming down on us, creating that charming nostalgic vibe that is ideal during the summer months when you just want to relax and let life pass you by.

Outdoor Lighting

If you are planning on a number of evening gatherings, outdoor lighting, such as candles, lanterns, or string lights adds a warm and inviting ambience. Lots of people have spotlights in their gardens, but these can be too harsh. Instead, opting for soft lighting through string lights or even repurposing your old Christmas lights will instantly create that lovely twinkly charm.

Set Up an Outdoor Bar

A little beverage station is a functional yet stylish element that is perfect for summer entertaining. So many of us think about long relaxing nights with the people we care about and an outdoor bar is such a wonderful little addition, and it certainly saves you having to go back to the fridge in the kitchen all of the time!

Cosy and Colourful Accents

One of the keys is about making a space feel like an extension of our indoor living area. Styling your patio with pillows, outdoor rugs, and other textiles will instantly make for a beautiful swathe of colour, especially for those cosy nights under a blanket when the sun has gone down.

Colour in the Form of Plants

Colourful flower baskets and planters filled with vibrant summer blooms add life and texture to your outdoor space. Every garden should have a wonderful array of colours and whatever you are passionate about, it’s worth adding these little touches that make you feel like you are at home. For any Americans, you can incorporate little patriotic colours of red, white, and blue or for the Welsh readers, you can add a wonderful dollop of red and green.

A Water Feature

Something like a fountain or a bird bath will draw avian visitors in and you’ve got a double whammy of not just a wonderful-looking focal point, but the soothing sounds of the water and the birds to enhance the relaxing ambience. I’ve always dreamed of a water feature!

Decorating your garden ready for the summer months starts now. Try some or all of these things and you can transform your garden into a beautiful summer-ready retreat.
