What’s New in 2026
Rainforest Adventure
The newest addition to SEA LIFE Scarborough is the Rainforest Adventure exhibit. This immersive walk-through experience features:
- Creepy crawlies and exotic insects
- Lurking lizards from tropical regions
- Curious critters you won’t find anywhere else in Yorkshire
- Educational displays about rainforest ecosystems
It’s properly interactive and genuinely atmospheric – kids (and adults!) love the jungle setting.
Yorkshire’s Only Seal Hospital
SEA LIFE Scarborough rescues over 30 injured seal pups annually! The Seal Hospital allows you to follow the journey from rescue to rehabilitation and eventual release back into the wild. This is unique to Scarborough and makes the visit extra special knowing you’re supporting real conservation work.
Resident Rescue Seals
Meet the permanent resident seals who can’t be released. These individuals have disabilities or injuries that mean they can’t survive in the wild, so they’ve found a forever home at Scarborough.
About Scarborough Sea Life Centre
The Sea Life Centre Scarborough is an aquarium on the North Bay in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. It is home to a variety of marine creatures from all around the world, including sharks, rays, seahorses, penguins, and many more. The aquarium provides visitors with an interactive and educational experience, and it is a popular attraction for families, school groups, and tourists.
The Sea Life Centre Scarborough is divided into different themed zones, including the Ocean Tunnel, Seal Hospital, Penguin Island, and more. Parking at Scarborough Sea Life Centre
I know what you’re going to ask first, it was the same thing I wanted to know: what’s the deal with Sea Life Centre Scarborough parking?
Firstly, parking at Scarborough Sealife Centre is a nightmare! It’s clear that it’s used by people other than Sea Life guests. You have to pay to park, we decided to pay £7 for 6 hours.
The parking bays were very small and there was no parent and child parking, so I had to get out with Leo first, or we would have struggled to get out of the car. The pay machine was very temperamental and we had to queue at it for our ticket. There wasn’t any option to use a parking app like Ringo, which would have made it much easier.
This made us late for our 10-minute slot. Luckily, this wasn’t a problem and we were able to go in without the time even being mentioned.

Tropical Ocean Tunnel Walk through the stunning 200,000-litre ocean tunnel with blacktip reef sharks, rays, and tropical fish swimming overhead and around you. The tunnel is the centrepiece and absolutely magical – children (and adults!) are mesmerised.
Resident star: Antiopi, the majestic sea turtle
Penguin Island (Outdoor) Meet the cheeky colony of Humboldt penguins in their walk-through outdoor home. You can get incredibly close as you make your way through their enclosure. The penguins are full of personality and often put on quite a show!
Feeding times: Check schedule on arrival – penguin feeds are hilarious and educational
Seal Hospital & Resident Seals Yorkshire’s only seal hospital rescues 30+ seal pups annually. Watch the rehabilitation process and meet the permanent residents who can’t be released. This is genuinely moving and educational.
Asian Short-Clawed Otters These adorable creatures are always active and entertaining. Their enclosure is outdoors, so they’re particularly fun to watch on sunny days.
Rainforest Adventure The newest exhibit immerses you in a jungle environment with lizards, insects, and tropical creatures. Great theming and properly atmospheric.
Interactive Rockpool Touch pools where you can gently feel starfish, crabs, and other marine life under staff supervision. Kids absolutely love this hands-on element.
Over 50 Marine Displays More than 2,500 creatures across 50+ displays including:

- Jazzy jellyfish (mesmerising to watch)

Best combined with: A day at Scarborough beach, fish and chips, and maybe a visit to Scarborough Castle. SEA LIFE is perfect for 2-3 hours, then spend the rest of the day at the seaside.
Who might be disappointed:
- Those expecting a full-day attraction (it’s 2-3 hours maximum)
- People who’ve visited larger aquariums (it’s compact compared to places like The Deep)
- Anyone wanting mostly outdoor experiences (it’s primarily indoor)
My verdict: 4/5 stars
SEA LIFE Scarborough is a solid, enjoyable aquarium with unique features (Seal Hospital, Penguin Island) that differentiate it from other marine attractions. The Ocean Tunnel is spectacular, the conservation message is genuine, and the Rainforest Adventure adds variety.
It’s not as large as The Deep in Hull, but it offers a different experience with more interactive elements and the outdoor penguin and otter areas. Combined with a beach day in Scarborough, it makes for an excellent family day out.
The key to value is booking online in advance. At £10-15 per person, it’s worth it. At £20+ gate prices, less so.

How long do I need? 2-3 hours covers everything comfortably. Some families spend longer if combining with outdoor playground and mini golf.

The sea life center looks amazing! I love living in a small town, but it means I have to drive quite a ways to bigger areas to see things like museums and experience events. Thank you for sharing some an awesome plethora of pictures; the tree phython, penguins, and sea horses are all so sweet and eye-catching. I feel like I am there in the cool, dim light, or out in the sun.

The lack of mask wearing is annoying. Why don’t companies enforce the rule on mask wearing. At library, for example, nobody can get in without one so 90% still wear it even if the security guy is not around. In other shops though almost nobody is wearing one. I still do and continue to do so, covid is not the only airborne disease, as even flu is pretty annoying to have and wearing a mask is not a big deal at all.
I’m surprised by the issues with parking, as this is the kind of place that attracts lots of parents. I’d love to visit it, but it’s too far from us anyway.
