I was invited to my first event in York last week. Woo! There always seems to be events on in Leeds, but none in York. Now I’ve moved to York, it’s harder for me to get to the Leeds ones!
Anyway, I was invited to a cocktail masterclass at a bar called Jalou in York. The building the bar is in is an old church, so it’s beautiful. The bar does have a very nightclub feel to it although it’s not classed as a nightclub.
We had the privacy of the upstairs bar, where we each made two cocktails. I picked a Mojito and a Cherry Bakewell cocktail.
I love Mojitos, but the Cherry Bakewell one was so tasty! Getting behind the car and making them was fun. I’ve always wanted to use one of those drinks things that squirt out soda water, haha.
The bar offers cocktail masterclasses starting at £20.95 per person. The cheaper packages offer welcome drinks and 2 cocktails each, which isn’t bad.
This would be perfect for a girls afternoon or hen do.
The bar itself is not somewhere I have been before and isn’t to my usual taste. We prefer to go to breweries or quieter bars rather than those with a nightclub feel. I am over 30 though! So those of you that love bars with a strong R&B vibe and a dance, this place is perfect. I’m just more of the type of person that likes to sit and chat with a local beer or gin! Though the bar does to more than just cocktails! Anyway, I am trying to go to as many different places in York so it’s good to tick another one off my list!
They started to play loud music at around 7:30 pm which made it hard to hear, but usually these masterclasses are on during the day so you don’t get that. I think the event was just later than normal masterclasses so bloggers could make it after work.
Overall, it was a good night and I’m not pretty confident I could make a mojito at home!
