AD| Longtime readers will know my love for vegetarian, vegan and plant-based alternatives. Although I do consume animal products, I’ve been actively reducing my consumption for the past few years for a few different reasons.
- the negative impact that the production of animal products has on our precious earth.
- a small attempt to reduce the number of animals in the industry – every little helps right?
- for health reasons. A believe a plant-based diet is better for humans.
- the price. Animal products are very expensive and are only increasing in price.
So I’ve been reviewing some 100% vegan cheese by Violife over the last few days. It’s been a while since I tried vegan cheese and I’ve never tasted Violife before, so I was excited to see what it was like.

Violife Vegan Cheese Range
The range of Violife vegan cheese is extensive. There are far more than just the five options I have here. There’s a Tex Mex one, a cream cheese style one, cheddar style, halloumi, feta, mozzarella and parmesan alternatives. It’s fantastic to see so many different styles and flavours on offer!

Violife Smokey Cheddar Flavour Slices
The smokey cheddar was the first thing I tried and I was shocked at how much it tasted like the dutch smoked log cheese that you can get from deli counters. It’s bursting with flavour and an excellent sandwich filler!
This cheese melts so works great in a toastie!

Violife Original Flavour Slices
This passed the test for me, it tasted of cheese for sure, it did have a bit of a hint of the cheese slices you get for burgers. It had a similar texture but was a bit firmer. I enjoyed it on its own by the slice and easily ate it in a sandwich.

Violife Original Flavour Grated
This was my least favourite item. Although it was original flavour like one of the other cheeses I tried, it had a slightly different taste and I didn’t enjoy it. We put it on top of a vegan pasta bake. It melted a little bit but not loads.
Although I wasn’t a fan of this, my husband really like it. He put more on his pasta bake and then ate the rest of the grated cheese directly from the packet later on, so it must be down to personal taste.

Violife Le Rond Camembert Flavour
I was so excited about this and was not disappointed. I love camembert! This was delicious paired with some fresh olive bread from the bakery. It needed a little longer to melt than the instructions said but other than that, it was great!

Violife Epic Mature Cheddar Flavour Block
My thoughts on this are the same as the grated cheese. I felt like it had quite an intense flavour which was too much for me, but it tasted much better when eaten in a sandwich or with other things but I struggled to eat it on its own. If you like strong and mature-tasting cheese you may like this one as my personal preference is milder cheese.
Vegan cheese has come a long way since the last time I tried any. I can’t believe the options that Violife offers. What a great selection!
There are also lots of vegan recipes that you can make that include Violife vegan cheese on their website.
Have you tried this brand yet?

I tried violife because a friend is dairy free. It tastes the same as regular cheese to me, certainly when in hot food.
I haven’t tried any cheeses from Violife, but I’ve seen the brand here in Denmark. It’s amazing that there are so many different varieties of cheeses!
Interesting! I’ve never tried vegan cheese but this looks good! I’ll have to try the smoked version!
Great post.
So glad to know there is an extensive line to their vegan cheeses.
Thank you for introducing me to this brand. My daughter is lactose intolerant, this can be a great alternative.
Wow… this plant base cheese looks great. You make me wanna try them. Thank you for sharing.
Out of all the vegan cheeses I have tried (there have been many) this is the one I enjoyed the most. I used the cheddar slices in a grilled cheese and it had the best flavour and texture (also a decent melt). I had no idea they had so many other types of cheeses within the brand so I will search them out!
I am not Vegan but have played around with Violife cheddar cheese in a few of the recipes. I was surprised that it actually melted and had the same texture as cheese. Thanks for sharing your reviews.
I would definitely try these products. We also eat animal products, but we cook more vegetarian options now. I am going to check out this range.
