Your home should be the place where you feel the most comfortable. It should be a safe haven from the mania of the outdoor world. You should feel relaxed and protected there at all times. However, it’s important to remember that this feeling won’t automatically be the case. In many instances, you’ll need to actively work to make it the case! In this blog, we’ll look at some useful tips for making your place more secure, both while you’re there and when you’re on holiday.

What Are The Weak Points?

The journey towards a more secure home begins by taking a hard look at your property and trying to identify what the weak points of the house may be. Common vulnerabilities include the garage area and old windows, both of which can provide easy access points for would-be criminals. You can check your home by simply thinking like a criminal: if you had to access your home without a key, how would you do it? If you — who is not a criminal — could easily get in, then you can bet your bottom dollar that a professional criminal could!

Don’t Advertise When You’re Away

Criminals are much, much more likely to target a home if they know that the person who is living there is away on holiday. So make sure that you’re not advertising your trip far and wide. This means not posting snaps on social media (it can be hard to resist the urge, we know!) or making it too obvious that you’re going away for a few days (house bordered up, etc.). If you don’t do these things, then your home could become something of a beacon for crime — after all, people are less likely to get caught if the homeowners aren’t there.

Handle Issues

We mentioned earlier to think about how you would hypothetically enter your property if you didn’t have your keys. But what if someone else did have your keys? Then, they’d be able to walk right through the front door. If you keep your keys in your bag and then lose your bag, it might be very easy for someone to enter your house, especially if you had an addressed envelope in the bag too! In that scenario, it’d be important to get in touch with a mobile locksmith as soon as possible. They’ll change your locks, nullifying the threat that the lost keys will bring.

Keep Up To Date With Tech

Finally, be sure to keep up with all the latest home security technology. There’s a lot out there that can help to make your house something of a fortress! Some of the latest and best tech for homes include doorbell cameras, which will show you who’s at your front door no matter where in the world you are. There are some hyper advanced home security systems, too, ones that’ll alert the authorities if something goes wrong. Once you’ve got all that tech, it’ll be a simple case of, well, actively using it!
