AD| Since the first time we took Leo to the park and put him in the swing, I knew we would eventually get some garden play equipment for him. My toddler loves to explore and climb and I’m really keen to help him develop his skills and see what he can do with his little body.

Outdoor play equipment can be an expensive investment, so if you’re still not sure whether to buy or not, here are some reasons why you should take the plunge!

Improves Physical Health

According to the World Health Organisation, a child should do one hour of physical activity a day. Garden play equipment is a great way to encourage them to get active while having fun climbing, swinging and sliding. Love is always climbing on and under his! He really likes the area under the climbing frame and is always walking back and forth over it while he explores!

If you have a harder ground surface in your garden and want to make sure that your child is safe when playing outside, you might decide to upgrade to some play area grass from a company like Grass Warehouse. These come in a range of different colours and make for the perfect pairing with outdoor garden equipment.

Improves Mental Health

We all know that getting outside is brilliant for the mental health of adults – it’s the same for kids. It’s a break from being stuck indoors or staring at a screen.

Mental health issues are at an all-time high in children and outdoor play can help them reduce anxiety. It also gives them a dose of vitamin D which helps them release serotonin. Serotonin is the happy hormone which balances and regulates mood.

Encourages Creativity

Depending on the type of outdoor equipment you have, it can spark different types of creativity and roleplay.

For example, our Wickey Joyflyer is a bit like a pirate ship. Itn has even got a steering wheel and a telescope. These encourage children to pretend they are on an adventure at sea!

Improves social skills

Creative role play is great for children’s social skills and vocabulary.

When they share outdoor equipment with siblings or friends they will learn and practice how to take turns and share things. Role play games help children practice scenarios and use vocabulary that they might not need to use in everyday life.

Can grow with your child

Ourdoor play equipment will be used for years and years by your child so it’s a great investment. You can often buy add-ons to extend your equipment over the years to refresh it and keep it exciting.

Many toys will come in and out of fashion or are outgrown quickly. But not play equipment. It’s always popular!

Keeps them entertained

Now for the best one – it keeps your children entertained in a real low-maintenance way. There’s no need to rush around getting ready to go to the park. Just open the door, step into your garden and your kids are having fun in your own home environment.

In the warmer months, you can enjoy some time outside while your kids play on their outdoor play equipment. When it’s a bit colder or rainy, you can watch from the comfort of your window.

We love our Wickey wooden climbing frame and so does our child. He loves walking on the platform and playing with the steering wheel. He also climbs under it and plays hide and seek with us. I can’t wait to see how he interacts with it when he’s older and to see him play on it with his friends!

  2. These are some really great reasons why you should invest in outdoor play equipment. I can’t wait to be able buy equipment like this for my future child or children. I loved being outdoors on my swing and slide or going to the park and I would want my child to have the same. Thank you for sharing this post. The pictures are so lovely.

  3. This looks so good! Amelia would love something like this. I’m with you on the MH thing, I think for kids and parents, being outdoors does wonders. I saw something the other day which said if you’re having a hard parenting time either get them in water or get them outside as it resets them a little bit. Ace post as always!
