AD| Looking after our precious earth is something that’s getting closer and closer to our hearts. As we start to understand and see the negative impacts we have on our environment, we feel moved to do something about it. Plus there are loads of benefits to living a sustainable lifestyle.
We get a sense of peace knowing that we are doing our small part to make the world a better place. We can feel good about reducing our carbon footprint, saving money and protecting the environment.

There are many ways to live a sustainable lifestyle. Some people choose to live with less and do more for themselves, while others might choose to use less electricity or buy things secondhand. Whatever your choice is, there are many benefits and it will help you feel better about yourself.
How Technology Can Help Us Become Greener
Our world is facing loads of environmental problems: climate change, pollution, and resource depletion are just a few of them. We need to find new ways to produce and consume goods without harming the environment. Can technology help us?
On a bigger scale, we can think of renewable energy sources such as solar panels and wind turbines for electricity production. These sources are environmentally friendly and can be used to power homes in remote areas where there is no access to traditional energy sources.
Hybrid and electric cars are also becoming more popular. These are powered by lithium-ion batteries that can be charged at home or at charging stations located around cities. They are much better for the environment than petrol-powered cars because they don’t emit any harmful pollutants into the atmosphere when driven.
The Future of Sustainable Living with Technology
Technology has been a major contributor to the environmental problem. But can it also be a major solution to environmental problems?
When I think of using technology to help us be more environmentally friendly, my mind moves to phone apps that can guide us in the right direction on a daily basis. We all have smartphones and many of us use them to help us manage our daily life, finances and workouts.

Apps to help us be eco-friendly
A few things that comes to mind are apps that can help us track our fuel consumption, or track what we have saved by using other means of transport or electric cars.
I imagine being able to view the energy consumption in our entire house and switch off plugs and lights just from an app or give us tip on how we can save energy and money by keeping things switched off.
I also see something around food waste and recycling being on our phone. Being able to track how much we have sent to landfill and how much we have saved from landfill using smart bins that are able to calculate this data and send it to our phones.
All these tools enable us to make it easier to be mindful of our own energy expenditure and encourage us to make better choices by holding us accountable. This article by Viessmann has some great ideas that are much smarter than mine! The one with the bees that can pollinate flowers sounds amazing!
How do you think technology will evolve to guides us in the right direction regarding climate change?
I’ve not actually thought about how technology can be greener – Other than electric/hybrid cars. We’ve implemented a couple of different things at home to be more sustainable but I’d imagine different apps could be super useful. I bet food wastage would be a big one for us, especially with a weaning baby & fussy toddler. Eeep.

There are some fab apps for being more eco-friendly, I recently downloaded one where shops give away or cheaply sell bundles of food that would otherwise go to waste and another that’s a similar concept but for neighbours. Technology can definitely help!

Like what Claire said, apart from electric cars, I don’t give much thought to how technology could be greener and help us be more sustainable. It’s definitely an area that needs to be spoken about more, this was a great read!
This is a really interesting blog post, I never thought about how you can use technology to become greener. I like the idea of the electric cars but that is how far I thought about technology in regards to that. Thank you for sharing your post.

This was a really interesting read – it’s fascinating thinking of the ways technology can help us become greener! We’ve actually recently installed some solar panels which have worked wonders so far, and I love the idea of apps to help too. Thank you so much for sharing x
Excellent post regarding how technology help us go greener. Thank you for sharing this information. Enjoyed reading. ☺️

This is a really cool and interesting post. Technology can definitely help the world become greener, including the proliferation of video-conferencing tech. Society’s carbon footprint is definitely making it harder to justify not investing in greener tech. Thank you for sharing.
I’ve actually never thought of the different ways technology can help us become greener, how fascinating! x

This is definitely not something I’d considered before, but I can totally see how apps could help me track and improve my environmental impact x

We have been using our Tado device to turn on and off our heating – it has a geofence so that the heating turns off while we’re out, then as we get back to the house, it turns back on again as needed so we get home to a warm house but it’s not keep the house super warm all day – if that makes sense!
I think things like this combined with our mobile phones and the GPS capabilities help us to be more efficient which in turn uses less gas and electricity.
