AD| Office chairs are a great addition to any office. They not only add a touch of décor to the interior of any office but also have health influences on whoever uses it. The design of an office chair is an important aspect that should be considered when picking the chair. This is due to the long hours spent sitting which can add stress to the structures in the spine. To prevent the development of back problems, you’ll need an office chair with an ergonomic design that allows a good sitting posture that supports the lower back.

The market is flooded with numerous types of ergonomic office chairs. But, each type of office chair differs from the next. What makes a good chair compounds several things that you need to look for in a good ergonomic office chair. Below are the features of a good office chair.

Chair width and depth

The chair needs to have the right measurements in terms of the width and depth to support the person sitting on it. The standard size is 17-20 inches wide and has a depth that allows the one sitting to comfortably lean their back against the backrest. It should also be adjustable on the forward or backward tilt with a pneumatic adjustment lever.

A height from about 16 to 21 inches off the floor is standard and should work for most people. This height allows you to place your feet flat on the floor, with your thighs and arms level with the work surface.

Adjustable

Most office chairs have a height and arm adjustment but the best office chairs usually have at least five adjustments which can be changed based on the preferred height of the user.

The chair should have an adjustable lumbar support, seats’ back width and height, seat and back angle, arm width and height, and tension control. They can either be dial-controlled or controlled with a hand-held bulb pump.

Lumbar support

A good office chair will have lumbar support for the lower back. A chair with adjustable lumbar support allows you to fit the chair to their lower back preventing back strain.

Material

A good office chair should not only have an ergonomic design but also be made of strong durable material. It should be stuffed with sufficient padding on the seat and the back for support. The best are materials that release moisture and heat to avoid feeling uncomfortable due to excess heat. Choose from a variety of office chairs to suit your every need made with comfy padded seating and luxury in mind.

Stability

Office chairs have to be sturdy and stable to sit on. Get an office chair with wheels that you can turn around in rather than have to twist and stretch your spine every time you want to turn. Check for chairs with strong casters that will allow stable movement even when the office chair is locked into different positions.

A good office chair made from strong materials and with a sturdy design will prevent the user from intense back pain. It also reduces fatigue and discomfort which occurs from sitting in the same chair for hours the whole day. According to studies, comfortable employees tend to be more productive within the work environment. Also, the employee won’t need to take regular breaks as a result of being uncomfortable.

  1. These are good tips! I think I need a new office chair, this one was okay when I was working from home once a week but now I work from home most days I really need something a bit more supportive – this one is super old, haha!

Hope that your week is going well 🙂
