Hello everyone! This is just a bit of a life update type post today for those of you that are wanting to know a bit more about me. I feel like I don’t share personal content as much, such as what I’ve been up to. But it was my birthday on Friday so I thought I’d share what how I spent it, especially as it was my first birthday as a mother.
I woke up to my little boy smiling at me. Which is the best way to wake up! He’s just over 7 months old now, it doesn’t seem that long ago since I was sharing his birth story. Now He’s sitting up, eating food and weaning!
As it was my birthday, I decided to do something that I’ve never done before. That’s talking on Instagram stories. It sounds pretty silly, but I really hate my voice so I never have them in my Instagram stories. But since I’ve been working on growing my Instagram following and increasing my blog income, I thought I should start doing it as I really like listening to how other people sound. It makes me feel more connected to them. So I just did it. I ended up doing it a few times that day, go me! I started by saying good morning to Leo on stories.
We got up, I changed Leo and we went downstairs. My partner was working but he left some presents and cards on the side from him, Leo and the cat.
Then the postman came and brought my some flowers and other presents from my friends. I have a group of mum friends, we have a Whatsapp chat and have been talking since January. Our babies are all the same ages and we are meeting up in Birmingham and they got me presents! It was lovely to open my surprises. Even though Leo stole one of my chocolate bars and tried to bite through the cardboard.
I was a bit gutted because Friday is the same day as the Numbrs Payday prize draw, I’ve won €200 in a few weeks but I didn’t have a ticket for my birthday draw as nobody used my referral link. Pretty sure I would have won €10000 if I had played on my birthday, birthday luck and all. And yes, that is a hint to read my Numbrs Payday post and sign up with my link if you haven’t already. I’m not shy, are you?
We chilled a bit in the living room. Leo was in this little red car playing, then reached over and pulled the leg of the little table by the side of the sofa. This table had half a pint of grape Fanta on. Which went all over the floor. So that was fun. Thanks Leo! Luckily it has all come out with the help of some vanish which I borrowed off my neighbour.
On Saturday my parents came to visit and we went out to a local pub for a meal. It was the first meal that we’ve had out with Leo. Apart from when he was 3 weeks old and we got him registered (we had lunch in a pub near the registry office and he slept in his pram the whole time).
The rest of the day was pretty normal. My partner was home about 5 pm, he now has 8 weeks off work as he’s a teacher and they have finished for summer holidays. We had dinner together, had a glass of champagne and then when Leo went to seep I blogged while my partner watched football!
Well, I’ve got to be honest with you. Going out for a meal with a baby is not relaxing or fun. Leo is a curious baby. He needs to be entertained a lot and isn’t a fan of just sitting on your knee. He needs to be doing SOMETHING. So that was hard work keeping him entertained!
Also the highchair at the pub wasn’t that suitable for him as he was too small for it. It was too far back and the tray was too high. We should have brought his cushion insert I mentioned in my weaning essentials post.
I ordered chicken fajitas and a side of sweet potato fries so I could share my meal with Leo. I put a bib on him and tore some of the tortillas wraps up for him while the rest of the food cooled. I’ve found the hardest part of weaning is making sure the food is cool enough to eat so he eats the same time as us. I usually give him something cool first before giving him everything else. He did a lot better than expected, actually! He had some red pepper, chicken (I pulled it so it was easy for him) and some sweet potato fries. It wasn’t too messy, either. Of course, he filled his nappy because Leo always fills his nappy at the worst times (such as at Askham Bryan Wildlife Park!)
I took him to the toilet to change him and someone else came in, when she used the hand dryer, the sound made Leo scream. He really hates any sudden sound so then he was crying and she was apologising for ages and I was hugging him and trying to smile and be polite. Then when we left the toilets they said ‘we could all hear that’.
So when you see photos of people eating out with their baby on Instagram, I do wonder if they did have a lovely time like the caption says or if it was just really hard work. I mean, it was nice to go out and have a meal but it was also REALLY HARD WORK and my back was killing by the end.
I’m going to see a chiropractor next week but that’s a story for another time.
We then went home and ate cake.
So that was my birthday! We’re going on a little trip Monday to Thursday next week. My partners family are coming to our house to look after the cat and have a little break in York. It’s due to rain the whole time so I’m hoping we can still get some chance to go and explore!
