It seems that social media habits everyone has developed over the years can be quite addicting if you aren’t careful. While the debate still rages on as to whether the internet can become an addiction, there is ample evidence that seems to support the fact that social media can for sure. If you have ever noticed yourself stopping whatever you’re doing, even when it’s important, to check the updates on your social media accounts, it’s possible that you’re addicted.

It Can Cause Depression and Anxiety

Studies have shown that the more people use social media, the unhappier they seem to be. It seems that social media affects two things, people’s moment-to-moment happiness and their lifetime happiness as well. This is thought to be because people on social media may seem to have a better life than you do, which leads to feelings of depression and anxiety. If you are feeling these things, whether from surfing social media sites or other reasons, you need to get help as soon as possible.     I still don’t get why seeing other people happy on social media should make us unhappy. Shouldn’t we be happy if our friends and people we follow are posting happy photos? I don’t see anything wrong with browsing stylized photographs as such, it’s more a thing of – comparison is the thief of joy. I think social media can cause depression because it does take time and energy and it doesn’t give us much in return. The communication there is bound to be quick and not heart to heart. Plus, our brain gets tired of screen time and so do our eyes.
