So my job hunt continues and it’s still as stressful as ever!
One thing has become pretty evident – I have a few skill/knowledge gaps.
I’ve been applying for a few different types of jobs, from following my dream of digital and social media marketing to jobs that use the skillsets I use in my current job – admin, HR and management.
It’s tough! It really is. I feel like I have a lot of skills. The problem is, I’m probably not an ‘expert’ in any of those skills. I do many things in my current job. I run recruitment, I manage payroll and overtime, I stand over hours and coach managers how to move resource to the right time and days. I manage, coach, audit. The problem is, with the size of the company I work for – these all have their own processes and systems that are unique to the organisation.
When it comes to the digital marketing, content creation and social media based roles I’ve applied for – my experience is only on a personal level of running this blog about the topics I enjoy. Not on a professional level where I have to be versatile across niche and understand marketing as a whole. I am sure I could do it, but there isn’t anything to back that up on my CV.
There are a few skill gaps I keep coming across with the jobs I apply for.
- SEO training
- Marketing degree
- CIPD qualification
- Accountancy qualifications
- Audit qualifications
So I decided to do something about it.
I’ve signed up for the CIM certificate in professional marketing. I started out big. The course should take about 8 months to complete according to the website. I am restricted by exam dates – the next exam is in December for the first module. I am going to work my arse off and hopefully be able to sit this one – otherwise, I’ll have to wait until April!
I’d love to still get a new job while I am studying so I am still applying and hoping to have that on my CV will help people take me a little more seriously!
So yeah, I just wanted to update you all.
Wish me luck and let me know if you’ve done a CIM qualification before.
