3 Tips for Making This Summer a Healthy One

Summertime has finally arrived and many have long awaited it. This could be because they’re looking forward to long breaks from work or school as well as spending time with friends and family. If you’ve recently converted to the healthy side of life, you may be thinking about all of the temptations that are about to stare you in the face. With festivities usually comes food, whether it be a calorie-filled burger or sugar-filled desserts. Beyond food, however, there are several other ways that you can stay healthy regardless of the many things going on around you. This article is going to help you out by suggesting three tips for making this summer a healthy one.

Watch What You Eat

Amongst the many activities that you’re going to participate in this summer, it’s likely that food will feature in many of them. This is because food happens to be a part of socialising in most cultures, so it’s often difficult to avoid. Some tips for healthy eating when you’re out and about include checking for the healthy options, controlling your portions, keeping it lean, and adapting your food where possible. Doing so should help ensure you make food choices that positively affect your health as opposed to set you back significantly.

Look After Your Mental Health

Your mental health is extremely important and contributes to your overall health. If you, therefore, want to be healthy this summer, consider using your free time to see a professional if you’ve been struggling with difficult issues like depression, anxiety, and addiction. You could consider taking time out to see a professional therapist if you’re battling depression or look for a halfway house to help with recovery from any addictions. Additionally, if you’re in the process of recovery, remember to avoid any triggers that you may be surrounded by. Seeing as during the summer there are usually numerous types of events and celebrations going on, it can be easy to slip into relapsing. On that note, be careful and try and avoid participating in activities that could be damaging to both your physical as well as mental health.

Choose Physical Activities

If you have to choose between lying on the sofa all night and binging on your favourite movies and going hiking with your friends, it may be a good idea to choose the latter. Summertime presents the perfect opportunity to put on unwanted weight, so try and maintain your weight and health by staying active. Some perfect physical activities to try during the summer are biking, dancing at festivals, swimming, and tennis. You could also consider a fitness holiday in beautiful destinations like Portugal, India, Spain, Germany, or Thailand.

Summer can be both a healthy season and a fun one simultaneously. The idea should be to do the things you love and eat the foods you want in moderation. By doing so, when the summer is over, you won’t feel guilty or find yourself having to relearn all of your healthy habits. On the contrary, you should be able to end the summer knowing it’s been your best yet in every way.

  1. These are great tips! I always find I don’t want to eat much in summer with the heat and humidity so I stick to lighter foods – works out well as that’s usually healthier stuff like fruits and veggies over say chips and chocolate, ha! 🙂

Hope you are having a lovely week! It’s a very chilly, wintery week here!

  2. Thanks for the good advice to spend a healthier summer, usually during these months I enjoy eating light, the high temperatures only allow me to eat salads, juices and abundant fruit. I believe that mental health is a very important factor for the wellbeing of the individual and the best thing in these cases is to seek professional help.

  3. I agree with all the above. I’ve done my best to up my fruit intake, but could do with more veggies! I’ve done shit with physical – it’s been so hot, that I can’t even bear the thought of having a walk to the park right now! Tania Michele xx
