With less than 2 weeks before I go to Crete for 10 nights, I’m getting both excited and practical about my holiday. So here’s a list of things I’m going to be doing to make sure I’m prepared. There’s nothing worse than having a last minute panic because your holiday has crept up on you!

Get your case out of the loft.

As we don’t have much storage space in the house, we keep our suitcases in the loft. I’ve gotten mind down already so I can start getting excited. Wait, I mean so I can start putting stuff in it like a sensible adult.

Wash your holiday clothes.

I keep some of my holiday clothes in my suitcase. Beach dresses, swimming costumes, anything I won’t need in cold England goes in the case in the loft. It’s been November since I’ve used it last, so some of the things have that musty smell, so time to give them a wash!

Try clothes on.

I know I am not the only women in the UK whose weight fluctuates. I must have clothes ranging from a size 8 to a size 14, ha. Now is the time to try things on, have a look in the mirror and only take those things you’ll love. We all know that we will wear 3 dresses 4 times and 5 dresses not at all, so save space by leaving those you’re not in love with behind!

Check your passport.

I It might sound silly, but just double check you know where your passport is and when it expires! You can use Pixelied’s passport picture maker to obtain biometric photographs for your passport in case it needs to be renewed or get a new one.

Get insurance.

Look into insurance companies to make sure you are covered. It might seem like an unnecessary expense, but if you break your leg, or something worse, you are going to wish you paid the small cost of travel insurance rather than the full hospital bill in a foreign country! It’s just for peace of mind. As I was going to Zante, Australia and Crete all in a year, I took out insurance to cover me for any travel for a full year as this worked out cheaper than insurance for a month in Australia. Something to look into if you have a travel bug!

Sort out Airpot travel.

Whether it’s a taxi, train or something is taking you – get your travel sorted out in advance and figure out the logistics so you have enough time at the airport for that all-important pint to take a photo of and put on Facebook.

Buy your suntan lotion.

Suntan lotion is SO important. A great thing to remember when buying suntan lotion is to look at the star rating, which tells you the level of UVA protection the suntan lotion offers. Look for 4 or 5 stars. Strangely, most brands are 3 or 4. It seems to be own branded lotions that offer the best protection!

Optional things:

  • Obsessively check the weather where you are going.
  • Download a countdown app.
  • Let everyone at work know how many days, hours and minutes until you take off.
  • Ask your other half about 17 times if you are going to have a ‘beer in the airport‘.
  • Buy new flipflops even though you know you’ll actually wear those comfy ones that are 6 years old.
  • Wonder about what you’ll forget to take.
  • Be smug.

What do you do to get ready for your holiday?

  1. I laughed at the list at the end! 🙂 Although we aren’t going anywhere any time soon this is a good reminder to me to get my passport renewed! It expires soon!

Hope that you are having a great weekend 🙂 It’s really cold here and the boys are unwell again so it is a quiet one weekend for us.

  2. Woo hope you have the best time! I always forget travel insurance and end up getting it like the day before!!
