The Instagram Experiment: Race to 10k // Week 4

Happy Sunday all! This is week 4 of my Instagram experiment. Check out the previous posts if you haven’t already:

The Instagram Experiment: Race to 10k // Week 4

My two most popular posts were fitness related ones. I did another transformation picture as they always get me lots of engagement and it did really well! As did the photo after my 10k.

The Instagram Experiment: Race to 10k // Week 4 The Instagram Experiment: Race to 10k // Week 4

STARTING POINT:

Followers: 5541
Average Likes Per Photo: 30.1
Average Comments Per Photo: 1.2 (yikes!)

WEEK 1:

Followers: 5569 (up 28)
Average Likes Per Photo: 80.8
Average Comments Per Photo: 9

WEEK 2:

Followers: 5602 (up 33)
Average Likes Per Photo: 85.8
Average Comments Per Photo: 11.4

WEEK 3:

Followers: 5615 (up 13)
Average Likes Per Photo: 80.1
Average Comments Per Photo: 11.7

WEEK 4:

Followers: 5614 (down 1)
Average Likes Per Photo: 88.7
Average Comments Per Photo: 13.7

I’ve had lots of followers this past week, but sadly even more unfollowers! I did have about 5622 at one point, then they all dropped me! I’ve downloaded an app called ‘followers’ and it lets you see who has followed and unfollowed. It might not be a surprise that most of the unfollowers are crap accounts that you would expect to unfollow. When cool bong samples gave a follow, I didn’t expect them to be around for long. Shockingly, they blocked me too!

HOW I DID WITH GOALS:

GOAL 1.

Repeat last weeks goal 1 around following 20 new accounts.

Didn’t quite find 20 again, but did find some.

GOAL 2.

Don’t forget to comment rather than mindlessly liking photos!

This was hard, I found myself really demotivated this week.

GOAL 3.

Do a transformation picture to see if it can be as popular as my previous one.

Did it and it worked out great!

What’s next?

Well, I think we can safely say that I am putting in effort to growing my Instagram but not getting very much in return. I am going to continue to try and comment on my feed and find new accounts to follow, but I’m going to stop documenting it. I’m still getting lots of people unfollow and it just seems Instagram is a bit crap now. Crap accounts following anyone then unfollowing shortly after and to be honest, I just can’t be bothered.

I’m happy with my engagement increasing, even if my followers don’t. So that’s what I’ll be working on.

I have enjoyed creating different type of content for my Instagram, so I am going to continue working on posting great photos and interacting with those accounts I love.

  1. I’ve found the worst for following/unfollowing are big companies. There’s one that follows then unfollows me almost weekly

  2. Instagram is so difficult to grow, whatever strategy you use it seems almost impossible to see continous improvement! You’ve done so well in such a short space of time! I think the goal with Insta should be community engagement and just having fun with it. It pushes you to experiement with photography and share things in a different way and that can’t be a bad thing!

    Sarah 🙂

  3. It’s a pain when people keep following / unfollowing you! It’s the thing I hate most about instagram, especially when they turn around and unfollow afterwards. It’s hard not to focus on the numbers going up and down when they are right there in front of you, haha!

It’s good there are still some positive sides to it and some things you’re going to try going forward though 🙂

Hope that you had a wonderful weekend 🙂 We had a birthday party for my eldest so it was a bit busy, but lots of fun.

  4. It’s so frustrating with all the spam accounts! Recently, I’ve had a lot of those “wanttogainfollowers” type of accounts following to unfollow. Like please, just LEAVE ME ALONE. I’m not going to pay for followers. I’m a lil surprised by the fact that they’re blocking you? Keep up the good work Corinne! xx

  5. It’s such a hard platform to grow! My main growth areas have been to try and take part in photo challenges as they tend to have good engagement and sometimes reposts by big accounts! I try and comment on lots of new accounts too. One day it’ll be 10K right!! x

  6. I love this idea so much! Instagram is so hard to grow these days, it really is a struggle! Great post lovely, and can’t wait to see more!

  7. I’ve recently stopped putting too much pressure on myself re Instagram because it made me less creative and too obsessed with numbers. Now, I post what I like, engage more with accounts I like and those that inspire me. My following is dropping, but I don’t care. Instagram is allowing me to learn about photography and I’ve met a few really great people through it. Yes, I’d love to be at 10k+ to use the swipe up feature to promote my blog, but rather than stressing out, I’m just enjoying my time (restricted) online.

    Good luck with your Insta!

  8. I have the app followers too! It definitely helps me track down who is doing shady behaviour! Hope your experiment works out! I’ve joined a lot of engagement groups and have teamed up with people to increase my engagement levels. What you need to do is find similar minded people and develop relationships with them, comment on their posts, try to grab their attention with thoughtful comments, or better yet send them a dm. Hope that works for you.
