Wake up sleepy head; it’s time to go to work. Ah, the dreaded words everyone hates to hear in the morning. Can’t I just stay in bed and drink endless cups of tea all day? No, I have to get up and earn money? But it’s hard! Now that the winter weather is here, starting the day correctly seems almost impossible at times. The problem is that the morning is the foundation for the rest of the day. Get it wrong and everything else will go to pot. And, you can’t just dive back under the covers and wish it all away. Please don’t fret though because this post has you covered. These are the morning habits which set the tone.

Wake Up Early

No one wants to get up at 6 am in the morning because, well, it’s too early! However, just because you can sleep in doesn’t mean you have. In fact, says there are numerous health benefits of rising before 9 o’clock. For one thing, it encourages productivity because there are more hours in the day. Also, there are fewer distractions in the morning so that you can get more done. Trying to fit in every last wink of sleep makes you more tired and takes the body longer to kick start.

Turn On The Heating

One reason to stay in bed in the winter is warmth. As soon as the covers come off, icicles start to form. It’s not nice, and it’s no wonder people would rather go back to sleep. However, there is a solution: smart heating. With an app like Hive or Wave, it is possible to set the temp from the comfort of your bed. And, with underfloor heating from, the bathroom floor won’t be freezing cold. With a warm shower under your belt, you’ll feel refreshed as well as toasty hot.

Eat Breakfast

It’s a cliché, yet breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The reason is that it kick starts the metabolism and gives the vital organs a boost. Plus, there is the added energy boost which helps you get through the morning. People miss breakfast for a variety of reasons, but there are no excuses. Whether you prefer to sleep in or don’t feel hungry, it’s essential to have a bowl of cereal or a piece of toast. The health freaks among you can gorge on egg whites or fruit and low-fat yoghurt.

Smile reports that scientists have found that smiling when you wake up is a mood lifter. Why? It’s because smiling and laughing releases a mixture of dopamine and endorphins. These are feel-good chemicals which instantly make you happier. Also, there is the psychological aspect. By smiling in the morning, it encourages you to attack the day positively. A fantastic trick is to read or watch a video on YouTube.

Mornings are tough; that is a fact. Thankfully, the habits above can make them less harsh. In fact, they may make them enjoyable!

  2. I love having smart heating – it’s made getting up on freezing cold Winter mornings much easier. I rarely sleep in past 9am as it just feels like a waste of the day. I definitely need to take the advice about eating breakfast on board though…
