A guide to dressing up flat shoes

We are all aware that some heeled shoes are anything but comfortable, but when it comes to piecing together the perfect outfit, we can’t resist those six inch glamourous stilettos. Then after the night out in sky-scraping heels, we swear we’ll never wear them again! But we do it over and over again because it just isn’t acceptable to wear your slippers to the dancefloor.

However, Daniel Footwear suggests there could be some stylish flat alternatives to our favourite crippling heels…

semi formal dresses

Embellished sandals

Summer has officially arrived – even if the sun hasn’t quite shown its face yet. With summer comes bright colours, funky patterns and of course, embroidery and embellishments. Footwear is no exception to this. Embellished sandals are a great alternative to heels — in fact, many A-listers have even walked the red carpet in the sparkly flats. The worst thing about them is that they can only be worn in the summer — step out in embellished flat designer sandals in the winter and prepare for some strange looks and exceptionally cold toes!

Whether you’re on vacation or simply dreaming of a holiday, they’re perfect for channelling that beach-to-bar look, while their added glitz adds a dash of glamour that every night out needs. Keep the rest of your outfit formal or smart-casual at the very least — wearing them with jeans is too casual for a night out with friends. Instead, choose feminine dresses and skirts in cool colours and delicate prints.

The pointed flat

Your favourite ballet pumps just got a whole lot better – if that’s even possible. For years now, the ballet flat has been our life-saver. From work to play, is there anything this super-versatile shoe can’t do?

They’ve stepped it up a notch with the pointed pump, an ideal choice for a night out, as it is not just comfortable — it’s this season’s must-have shape. For extra evening glamour, choose an embellished or lace-up pair to add detail to your look.

Backless loafers

Sick and tired of putting your feet through torture every day at work? Especially if you are on your feet all day, formal court shoes are not the most comfortable. Instead, say hello to backless loafers. Originally made popular by Gucci, other brands have since replicated the trend, making the loafer one of this season’s must-haves.

And the best thing about these comfy loafers is that you can also wear them as part of your off-duty style — a light-coloured loafer works great with loose-fitting, light wash ripped jeans and easy t-shirt. Bring the look together with a chic tailored blazer for a look that successfully bridges the gap between smart and casual.

  1. I have a wedding to attend soon and just thinking about heels in the hot weather fills me with dread, I will look out for some more pretty flats that will hopefully go just as nice with my outfit xx

  2. I’m always asked ‘why are you wearing flat’s but I’m always the one smug at the end of the night!
