I WENT TO WALES. I was very excited about this. When we visited my boyfriend’s parents house last week, we took a day trip to Hay-on-Wye, which is on the border of England/Wales.
Hay is a small market town and it only takes a few minutes to walk around the centre. There are loads of book shops that sell old second hand books, as well as quaint little cafes and bars. We went on one of the really hot days at the start of July and made use of Shepard’s Ice-cream parlour.
Hay has a stunning castle. Funnily enough, it’s called Hay Castle. It’s just ruins now, but stunning to look at. They have two massive book shelves of books in the gardens in an ‘honesty bookshop’. You can take books but must donate in a bucket. It’s not manned, so I guess you could nick some if you have no heart.
We also went for a walk down the river bank. It was beautiful and the trees shaded us from the sun.
It’s a lovely way to spend a warm afternoon.
Yay for Hay.
It’s stunning and it has a funny name. I love that library, it’s a lovely idea, never seen something like that. I like the whole concept of the honesty box, I would have bought a couple of books just to use it.
This looks all kinds of beautiful. I love the idea of the book shop – I’m a fan of books, so to have an honesty book shop, win! I’ve often found places to swap books and done that, must keep my eyes open for these sorts of shops. Would love to visit Wales again, Hay looks so pretty. Nice way to spend the day!

This looks like a cute quaint place to visit. I hope people are honest with the books! I’ve seen an honesty box with some eggs at the place we go walking sometimes and I always wonder if people give the right money! x

Hay has been on my places to visit list for SO long, must make it happen!
What a beautiful place to visit! I love the bookshelves in the garden 🙂
Hay is one of my top 3 favourite places in the world! I LOVE it there. We used to go there every Summer with the windband or string orchestra from my Music School and spent a week in Glasbury on Wye doing outdoor pursuits, practising music and spending a day in Hay. My husband and I went there three times during our relationship- we love it!! Glad you did too!x
I love Hay! It’s only about an hour’s drive from here. If you enjoy reading, I’d recommend going whilst Hay Festival is on… It’s brilliant!
I would love to visit Wales (and damn near everywhere else tbh) some day. It’s so beautiful 🙂
Looks really beautiful I love the idea of. Book shelf outside Lucy x
