If you haven’t heard of Uber before then you are drunk and need to, um, get in an Uber and go home. Then when you wake up maybe try and catch up with the rest of 2016. Even I know what Uber is, and I can barely tell the difference between Brad Pitt and Bruce Willis (I wish I was joking).
I used to be sooooo against Uber when it first came out. I’m not sure why. I think I read some article about how Uber is putting local firms out of business, then one day I got in one with a friend and I mentioned I used a different Taxi service that also had an app to order a Taxi. Then the Uber driver spent the entire time slagging off the Taxi rank I was using and saying how much better Uber is.
That really put me off.
It wasn’t until a few months later, when I tried to get picked up from some apartments in Leeds that the taxi driver couldn’t find me from the postcode I gave. After trying to direct him, having the human who was stood next to me also direct him to the apartments, I gave up. I downloaded Uber and never looked back.
My life instantly became easier – not just because you can pay via Paypal within the app, but that you can pin your destination, too.
As a blogger, I often get invited to bar openings. I tend to have zero idea where these new bars are, when I got in a taxi from the old firm I used and have them the name of the street it was on, they never had any idea. 9 times out of 10 I had to Google it myself to find them a postcode. Then they would ask me which way I would like to go. I DONT KNOW ARENT I PAYING YOU TO DO THE DRIVING AND THE NAVIGATING?
On Uber, you can set your destination, too, so the driver knows exactly where you are going.
They have a rating system, too, where after you’ve rode in an Uber, you rate the taxi driver out of 5 stars and they rate you too. One of the taxi drivers gave me and my friend a chocolate bar – he must have really wanted those 5 stars!
If you’ve not signed up for Uber yet, then nows your time. Download the Uber app, sign up and use my code CARTREE to get £15 off your first ride and see how you like it for yourself!
Even if you don’t want to use it all the time, at least give it a go for the sake of a free taxi ride!
