When I got into the taxi to meet Hayley (AKA Tea Party Beauty, AKA BAE) at Slate NQ, a new pool bar at Leeds on Merrion Street, the taxi driver looked at me as if it was the dodgiest pub in the world.
I still have no idea why.
When I first walked in, it was quite, but the place looked very fresh, stylish and a trendy place to be. It’s managed by the same people who run Roxy Ballroom and Roxy Lanes – I have a feeling they also run a few other bars in Leeds.
We had the choice of a cocktail, a main and also given an hour to pool.
Naturally, Hayley went for the one with the gin, Summer In Leodis. I went for Northern Heights: fresh blueberries and basil thrown together with blueberry vodka, maraschino liqueur, lime juice and sugar syrup.
The cocktails were all so intricate and detailed. It took a long time for the girl behind the bar to make them which could get frustrating if there were more people waiting. The services was great though and the staff were all friendly, asking if everything was okay etc.
Hayley picked the Spicy Pork Sausage Pizza which came loaded with rocket – a trend I’ll never understand. I went for the vegetarian Wild Mushroom pizza. The mushrooms were delicious, very meaty.
The menu has your typical bar food – salads, sandwiches, pizzas. There’s also a selection of cheese and meats and some sharing platters. I’d like to request a vegetarian sharing platter, please. Cheese, olives, bruchetta, chutney, bread, dips..
After a few drinks, we went to play pool and I totally kicked Hayleys ass within 2 minutes.
By which I mean, she potted the black ball. We carried on playing though, and she won the next two games. But she’s much better with balls than me, clearly. I can never get them in the holes but she’s a pro. And now all I want to do is make multiple that’s what she said joke. But I’m trying to act a bit more mature lately.
LOOK AT ME ABOUT TO BREAK.
If you’re wanting to spend time with some friends but want something a bit more than just drinking around a table, head over to Slate NQ on Merrion Street, Leeds for some pool.
