makeup storage

If you had told me a few years ago I was writing a post like this, I would have LOLed in your face and then walked off.

Up until about 18 months ago, my makeup collection was:

  • a black eyeliner.
  • a gold/brown/bronze shadow palette
  • a mascara
  • a powder barely I barely used
  • a foundation I only used on special occasions

I had one of each and would replace only when I ran out.

Through PR samples, beauty boxes, blogging events and a new appreciation for makeup thanks to reading beauty blogs, I now have quite the collection.

I store most of it in one of my desk drawers, though I do have some unopened that I’m not going to add to the drawer until something runs out, but this is how I store my makeup that’s opened and in use.

I use a Glossybox and some old Birchboxes and their lids to separate my drawer into compartments. I think use each compartment for a certain product group.

The first compartment is for my face. It includes:

  • BB cream
  • foundation
  • blusher
  • bronzer
  • powder

The second compartment is for eye makeup. It includes:

  • eyelid primer
  • mascara
  • eyeshadow
  • eyeliner

The next compartment is for lips:

  • lipsticks
  • lip stain
  • lip balm
  • lip liner

The final compartment is for skin products which includes:

  • moisturiser
  • primer
  • eye cream
  • illuminator

In the back compartments I have things I don’t use so much, such as nail varnish, nail scissors and clippers, products that are not opened yet and samples.

On my desk I have a desk organiser that I was sent from Viking which I featured in my bloggers desk post.

This holds my makeup brushes and my palettes.

I like that it’s easy to find things now their product grouped, before I had my makeup set up like this I would always lose the smaller products, such as eye liner and Mac eyeshadow. It’s easy to keep tidy too which is vital for me.

How do you store your makeup?

  1. Wow you have a big makeup collection i really don’t know which urban decay palette to get I’m stick between 2&3 could you help me out?

  2. Hehe I can definitely relate to you.. I haven’t had much makeup until I started blogging hehe

  3. Love it!! My friend organizes quite similar to you. I personally don’t have that much makeup to organize in the extent. I got more in a just purchase when I’m on the verge of running out and don’t have too much extra on reserve. I have a makeup bag that holds everything in my house. A duplicate in my car for when I’m out and about and or get caught up at a friends/travel etc. And then one that constantly stays in my dance bag. Between them all I have a lot of makeup, but all in specified places.

  4. IT IS INCREDIBLY ORGANIZED !!!!! Teach me your ways girl!
I would love to raid your amazing make up collection if I had a chance, believe me 😛

  5. I love that you have a drawer for your products. Effective organization definitely helps you keep track and find things. I keep my makeup in a large clear acrylic caddy.

  6. I don’t store mine half as well as this! I was in Muji for the first time ever and am trying to build up a nice stash of storage. It’s all in a set of drawers right now, very messily!

  7. Love your storage area! I never thought I would be into mkaeup either years ago (mind you my makeup is just lipstick haha) But it is so crazy to think how much you can change.

  8. Oh wow, you have quite the collection of cosmetics now! I love how organised it all looks – I just have a small pouch of things that I use, although I’m considering cutting back on makeup now!

  9. This is super organised, I really d need to sort my collection out. It basically is in a wash bag and finding anything is a nightmare. I like the way you have split the cosmetics into logical boxes. Lucy x

  10. I am such an organisation nerd: I love reading about how bloggers arrange their make-up! I like the idea of using box lids to separate make-up. I don’t think I have collected enough beauty stuff to do that yet though!

  11. Beauty bloggers are such enablers! Tempting us into buying so much makeup! I have a similar desk drawer full too, it’s so handy 🙂

  12. My makeup collection has expanded a whole lot since I started blogging. I keep it in a set of drawers on my bedside table, not a small set either and they’re already getting overfilled…. which is why I stuck myself on a no buy and I’m working through destashing a bit. I like your collection though, it looks so neat 🙂

  13. haha at Loled at your face, you are too cute
hey u have nicely organised i love it
I have to do something like it soon 🙁

  14. My make-up collection is tiny; I have a box at my Mum and Dad’s and take stuff out of there as I need it but my foundation, cover up stick and powder live in my hand bag with a lip balm and my mascara and lip gloss live in the bathroom cabinet. And that’s all I have.

  15. your storage is so cute! Although I like mine displayed, and since I don’t have that many products, it’s not too much to display 🙂

  16. I think everyone has another draw where they put their brand new and unused make up so it doesn’t get used accidentally without being photographed 😉

    Dannie x

  17. Ahh you are so organised! I recently invested in Muji storage and I love it. However I need so many more to comfortably fit everything in – my makeup collection is getting ridiculous!

  18. I love the little interior boxes you have in your desk – such a good idea 🙂 xx

  19. Sorry I am stalking your blog today 🙂
I also noticed a sonic screwdriver in your desk organiser. Great taste (I have one too..he.he)
I also use old boxes to separate my make up (I use the ones Debenhams use to deliver in) and I keep them in an Ikea kitchen trolley.
