I bought these eyeshadows about a month ago after seeing how cheap they were at Wilkinsons. I bought a selection of Essence products, you can see the full haul here. Do it do it do it. I got loads of stuff for about a tenner.

Two of those products were some metallic eyeshadows:

  • 35 Party All Night (the gold/brass colour)
  • 03 Frosted Apple (the t’other colour)

I have a thing for gold/rose shimmery eyeshadow, which is why I love the Naked 3 so much. So because I only have about 423492453 other rose/gold/metalic shadows, I thought I might need some more.Just in case, ya know, I run out summink. Dick.

These eye shadows have a lovely shimmer to them,  but to be honest they are not that pigmented. It’s more of a light shimmer that you might want to put over a matte colour for a bit of shine rather than use on their own.

The swatches in the photo below are around four layers of the shadow as my camera couldn’t pick up just the one layer. They did look more pigmented in real life, but my camera was being a brat.

If you’re looking for a subtle glitter shade that catches the light, then these are perfect, especially as they cost less than £2 each!

If you’re wanting a more pigmented shimmer shadow, I’d recommend you invest in the L’Oreal Colour Rich collection. I don’t think I could wear these a long as it would give a worn-out look. They are much more of an add on. Whether you see that as a positive or negative thing.. well, that’s up to you. I think it’s a good thing because it means you can turn your favourite existing shadows into a metallic shadow for very little $$$$.

Even though these are not as pigmented as I would like, it’s not put me off trying more Essence shadows. I love their range and their prices.

Have you discovered Essence yet?

  1. Glad they worked to some extent. I have some stuff from this range and it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. And for the price it’s great. xx

  2. I’ve been wondering about the Essence range! Eyeshadows with little pigment are one of my leasttt favourite things, I don’t think I’ll be persuaded to try these! Lovely post 🙂

  3. I didn’t even know Wilkinsons sold make up! They’re lovely colours but I think I’d rather pay more and have it last longer too x

  4. I haven’t heard of this make but the colours are totally my shades. I love the gold such a wonderful colour. Perfect for autumn and so cheap Lucy x

  5. I really wish cheaper brands did more matte finishes of items, I always find shimmer too cheap looking on me. But these are good for the money, and a fab way of trying new colours for sure!

  6. Haha love it. I personally prefer color-rich shadows that go a long way! These are pretty colors though and I totally get why you have tons of gold/rose colors; I do as well!

  7. I’ve never heard of the brand personally. Maybe it’s not carried in the US yet?

Have you tried wetting your applicator and then applying the eyeshadow? That normally helps in adding a bit of pigment.

  8. Great review! I’ve tried a few things from essence, and so far, I’ve liked what I’ve tried. I like your idea of layering these over another eyeshadow 🙂

  9. Just seen there stuff in wilkos today and thought it’s cheap but didn’t buy anything. Think a mascara was like £2.99. But they actually look nice I don’t really wear eye shadow but these are a really nice subtle shade. Thanks for sharing x
