Red Chilli Chinese Restaurant York

lifestyle

A couple weeks ago, my boyfriend and I went to Red Chilli, his favourite restaurant in York. Red Chilli is a Chinese restaurant that’s different from your typical chinese menu. The food is authentic and there’s a few strange dishes on the menu. Like ox heart, duck tongue, eels and more.

We went around 7:30 on a Saturday and it was packed full of people. You can’t book a table for two people, so we had a drink in the waiting area until a table became free about 20 minutes later.

For starters, we shared the pork and shrimp spring rolls and for the main I had theSautéed Shredded Beef Fillet with Chilli with Cantonese Sauce and my boyfriend had Sautéed Sliced Pork Belly with Chilli.

Both dishes were lovely. I’m not usually a big pork fan but I loved the sliced pork belly.

Service was quick and the prices were great. We had 3 drinks each (wine and beer) and the bill for that, plus 2 starts, 2 mains and 2 servings of egg fried rice came to £60.

I kind of want to go back and try some more of the weird things. I’m sure we will be returning! If you find yourself in York, I urge you to go!

You can find Red Chilli at 21-25 George Hudson St, York YO1 6JL.

They also have restaurants in Leeds and Manchester.

Everything looks so tasty! I’m Chinese and I can assure that beef heart and duck tongue aren’t weird in our culture. Organ meats like heart actually have certain nutritional benefits.

It’s so hard to find authentic Asian dishes in the Western world and whenever I come across one, I will head back again and again.
