My Top 4 Christmas Songs

christmas

5-things-13

I was going to call this my top 5 Christmas songs, but I couldn’t think of a 5th and I thought there was no point faking it.

So here are my top 4 Christmas songs.

The Pogues – Fairytale of New York

I love the lyrics in this song, it’s one that gets me wanting to sing along each year. I only started to love it a few years ago when I actually took notice of the lyrics. What a song. If you’ve never read the lyrics, then do. Actually, I’m going to put them in. BRBRBRBR.

It was Christmas Eve babe
In the drunk tank
An old man said to me,
Won’t see another one
And then he sang a song
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
I turned my face away
And dreamed about you

Got on a lucky one
Came in eighteen to one
I’ve got a feeling
This year’s for me and you
So happy Christmas
I love you baby
I can see a better time
When all our dreams come true

They’ve got cars
Big as bars
They’ve got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you
It’s no place for the old

When you first took my hand
On a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me
Broadway was waiting for me

You were handsome
You were pretty
Queen of New York City
When the band finished playing
They howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging
All the drunks they were singing
We kissed on the corner
Then danced through the night

The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing ‘Galway Bay’
And the bells are ringing
Out for Christmas day

You’re a bum
You’re a punk
You’re an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead
On a drip in that bed

You scumbag
You maggot
You cheap lousy faggot
Happy Christmas your arse
I pray God
It’s our last

The boys of the NYPD choir
Still singing ‘Galway Bay’
And the bells are ringing
Out for Christmas day

I could have been someone
Well, so could anyone
You took my dreams
From me when I first found you
I kept them with me babe
I put them with my own
Can’t make it all alone
I’ve built my dreams around you

The boys of the NYPD choir
Still singing ‘Galway Bay’
And the bells are ringing
Out for Christmas day

Crofts Family – Sparrow in the Birch

The Crofts family put out a Christmas album about two years ago which I love. If you know YouTubers the Shaytards, then you’ll know Colette, one of the members of the Crofts Family. The whole family is talented, they were brought up playing music and singing and the Christmas album is lovely. This is my favourite song from it.

Sarah McLachlan – In the Bleak Mid-Winter

I feel in love with this song at school when we sang it in a concert. It was slightly ruined for me when a women at work was humming and lalalaaarrring it at work at 7:30am the other day. I’m trying to forget about that though.

The Snowman – Walking in the Air

This is another Childhood favourite. Christmas eve was the longest day in the universe when I was a child. It lasted for about 3 years and I was dragged around my aunts and uncles house, bored off my tits waiting for night time to come and Santa to come and GIVE ME ALL THE PRESENTS.

Every Christmas eve we would watch this. It reminds me of Christmas eve. Which I actually like, despite the description above.

What’s your favourite Christmas song?
